23 And the Lord said to Moses, (A)“Has[a] the Lord’s arm been shortened? Now you shall see whether (B)what I say will happen to you or not.”

24 So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord, and he (C)gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people and placed them around the tabernacle. 25 Then the Lord came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him, and placed the same upon the seventy elders; and it happened, (D)when the Spirit rested upon them, that (E)they prophesied, [b]although they never did so again.

26 But two men had remained in the camp: the name of one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad. And the Spirit rested upon them. Now they were among those listed, but who (F)had not gone out to the tabernacle; yet they prophesied in the camp. 27 And a young man ran and told Moses, and said, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.”

28 So Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, one of his choice men, answered and said, “Moses my lord, (G)forbid them!”

29 Then Moses said to him, “Are you [c]zealous for my sake? (H)Oh, that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!” 30 And Moses returned to the camp, he and the elders of Israel.

The Lord Sends Quail

31 Now a (I)wind went out from the Lord, and it brought quail from the sea and left them fluttering near the camp, about a day’s journey on this side and about a day’s journey on the other side, all around the camp, and about two cubits above the surface of the ground. 32 And the people stayed up all that day, all night, and all the next day, and gathered the quail (he who gathered least gathered ten (J)homers); and they spread them out for themselves all around the camp. 33 But while the (K)meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of the Lord was aroused against the people, and the Lord struck the people with a very great plague. 34 So he called the name of that place [d]Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had yielded to craving.

35 (L)From Kibroth Hattaavah the people moved to Hazeroth, and camped at Hazeroth.

Dissension of Aaron and Miriam

12 Then (M)Miriam and Aaron [e]spoke (N)against Moses because of the [f]Ethiopian woman whom he had married; for (O)he had married an Ethiopian woman. So they said, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through (P)Moses? (Q)Has He not spoken through us also?” And the Lord (R)heard it. (Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.)

(S)Suddenly the Lord said to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, “Come out, you three, to the tabernacle of meeting!” So the three came out. (T)Then the Lord came down in the pillar of cloud and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam. And they both went forward. Then He said,

“Hear now My words:
If there is a prophet among you,
I, the Lord, make Myself known to him (U)in a vision;
I speak to him (V)in a dream.
Not so with (W)My servant Moses;
(X)He is faithful in all (Y)My house.
I speak with him (Z)face to face,
Even (AA)plainly,[g] and not in [h]dark sayings;
And he sees (AB)the form of the Lord.
Why then (AC)were you not afraid
To speak against My servant Moses?”

So the anger of the Lord was aroused against them, and He departed. 10 And when the cloud departed from above the tabernacle, (AD)suddenly Miriam became (AE)leprous, as white as snow. Then Aaron turned toward Miriam, and there she was, a leper. 11 So Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord! Please (AF)do not lay [i]this sin on us, in which we have done foolishly and in which we have sinned. 12 Please (AG)do not let her be as one dead, whose flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother’s womb!”

13 So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “Please (AH)heal her, O God, I pray!”

14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “If her father had but (AI)spit in her face, would she not be shamed seven days? Let her be (AJ)shut[j] out of the camp seven days, and afterward she may be received again. 15 (AK)So Miriam was shut out of the camp seven days, and the people did not journey till Miriam was brought in again. 16 And afterward the people moved from (AL)Hazeroth and camped in the Wilderness of Paran.

18 For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of (A)its weakness and unprofitableness, 19 for (B)the law made nothing [a]perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of (C)a better hope, through which (D)we draw near to God.

Greatness of the New Priest

20 And inasmuch as He was not made priest without an oath 21 (for they have become priests without an oath, but He with an oath by Him who said to Him:

(E)“The Lord has sworn
And will not relent,
‘You are a priest [b]forever
According to the order of Melchizedek’ ”),

22 by so much more Jesus has become a [c]surety of a (F)better covenant.

23 Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. 24 But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Therefore He is also (G)able to save [d]to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives (H)to make intercession for them.

26 For such a High Priest was fitting for us, (I)who is holy, [e]harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, (J)and has become higher than the heavens; 27 who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His (K)own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.

The New Priestly Service

Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, (L)who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

Philip and Nathanael

43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found (A)Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.” 44 Now (B)Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found (C)Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom (D)Moses in the law, and also the (E)prophets, wrote—Jesus (F)of Nazareth, the (G)son of Joseph.”

46 And Nathanael said to him, (H)“Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”

Philip said to him, “Come and see.”

47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, (I)an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”

48 Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?”

Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”

49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, (J)You are the Son of God! You are (K)the King of Israel!”

50 Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” 51 And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, (L)hereafter[a] you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”

Water Turned to Wine

On the third day there was a (M)wedding in (N)Cana of Galilee, and the (O)mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”

Jesus said to her, (P)“Woman, (Q)what does your concern have to do with Me? (R)My hour has not yet come.”

His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.

Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, (S)according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. When the master of the feast had tasted (T)the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. 10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!”

11 This (U)beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, (V)and [b]manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.

12 After this He went down to (W)Capernaum, He, His mother, (X)His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.
