Arrangement of the Camp

The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, (A)“The people of Israel shall camp each by his own standard, with the banners of their fathers' houses. They shall camp facing the tent of meeting on every side. Those to camp on the east side toward the sunrise shall be of the standard of the camp of Judah by their companies, the chief of the people of Judah being (B)Nahshon the son of Amminadab, his company as listed being 74,600. Those to camp next to him shall be the tribe of Issachar, the chief of the people of Issachar being Nethanel the son of Zuar, his company as listed being 54,400. Then the tribe of Zebulun, the chief of the people of Zebulun being Eliab the son of Helon, his company as listed being 57,400. All those listed of the camp of Judah, by their companies, were 186,400. (C)They shall set out first on the march.

10 “On the south side shall be the standard of the camp of Reuben by their companies, the chief of the people of Reuben being Elizur the son of Shedeur, 11 his company as listed being 46,500. 12 And those to camp next to him shall be the tribe of Simeon, the chief of the people of Simeon being Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai, 13 his company as listed being 59,300.

The Arrangement of the Tribal Camps

The Lord said to Moses and Aaron: “The Israelites are to camp around the tent of meeting some distance from it, each of them under their standard(A) and holding the banners of their family.”

On the east, toward the sunrise, the divisions of the camp of Judah are to encamp under their standard. The leader of the people of Judah is Nahshon son of Amminadab.(B) His division numbers 74,600.

The tribe of Issachar(C) will camp next to them. The leader of the people of Issachar is Nethanel son of Zuar.(D) His division numbers 54,400.

The tribe of Zebulun will be next. The leader of the people of Zebulun is Eliab son of Helon.(E) His division numbers 57,400.

All the men assigned to the camp of Judah, according to their divisions, number 186,400. They will set out first.(F)

10 On the south(G) will be the divisions of the camp of Reuben under their standard. The leader of the people of Reuben is Elizur son of Shedeur.(H) 11 His division numbers 46,500.

And the sons of Aram:[d] Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech. 18 Arpachshad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber. 19 To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg[e] (for in his days the earth was divided), and his brother's name was Joktan. 20 Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 21 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 22 Obal,[f] Abimael, Sheba, 23 Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan.

Prophecy Against Tyre

26 (A)In the eleventh year, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: (B)“Son of man, because (C)Tyre said concerning Jerusalem, (D)‘Aha, the gate of the peoples is broken; it has swung open to me. I shall be replenished, now that she is laid waste,’ therefore thus says the Lord God: (E)Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and will bring up (F)many nations against you, (G)as the sea brings up its waves. They shall destroy the walls of Tyre and break down her towers, and I will scrape her soil from her and (H)make her a bare rock. She (I)shall be in the midst of the sea a place for the spreading of nets, (J)for I have spoken, declares the Lord God. And she shall become plunder for the nations, and her daughters on the mainland shall be killed by the sword. (K)Then they will know that I am the Lord.

“For thus says the Lord God: (L)Behold, I will bring against Tyre (M)from the north Nebuchadnezzar[a] king of Babylon, (N)king of kings, with horses and chariots, and with horsemen and a host of many soldiers. He will kill with the sword (O)your daughters on the mainland. (P)He will set up a siege wall against you and throw up a mound against you, and raise (Q)a roof of shields against you. (R)He will direct the shock of his battering rams against your walls, and with his axes he will break down your towers. 10 His horses will be so many that their dust will cover you. Your walls will shake at the noise of the horsemen and wagons and chariots, when he enters your gates as men enter a city that has been breached. 11 With the hoofs of his horses he will trample all your streets. He will kill your people with the sword, and your mighty pillars will fall to the ground. 12 They will plunder (S)your riches and loot (T)your merchandise. They will break down your walls and destroy your pleasant houses. 15 “Thus says the Lord God to Tyre: Will not (AA)the coastlands shake at the sound of your fall, (AB)when the wounded groan, when slaughter is made in your midst? 16 Then all (AC)the princes of the sea will step down from their thrones and (AD)remove their robes and strip off their embroidered garments. They will clothe themselves with trembling; (AE)they will sit on the ground and (AF)tremble every moment and (AG)be appalled at you. 17 And they will (AH)raise a lamentation over you and say to you,

“‘How you have perished,
    you who were inhabited from the seas,
O city renowned,
    (AI)who was mighty on the sea;
she and her inhabitants (AJ)imposed their terror
    on all her inhabitants!
18 Now the coastlands tremble
    on the day of your fall,
and the coastlands that are on the sea
    are dismayed at your passing.’

19 “For thus says the Lord God: When I make you a city laid waste, like the cities that are not inhabited, (AK)when I bring up the deep over you, and the great waters cover you, 20 then (AL)I will make you go down with those who go down to the pit, to the people of old, and I will make you to dwell in the world below, among ruins from of old, (AM)with those who go down to the pit, so that you will not be inhabited; but I will set beauty (AN)in the land of the living. 21 I will bring you (AO)to a dreadful end, and you shall be no more. A Prophecy Against Tyre

“‘How you are destroyed, city of renown,
    peopled by men of the sea!

the islands in the sea
    are terrified at your collapse.’(AL)

19 “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: When I make you a desolate city, like cities no longer inhabited, and when I bring the ocean depths(AM) over you and its vast waters cover you,(AN) 20 then I will bring you down with those who go down to the pit,(AO) to the people of long ago. Repent or Perish

The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree

And he told this parable: “A man had (F)a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. Why should it use up the ground?’ And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.’”

Repent or Perish

13 Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate(A) had mixed with their sacrifices. Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way?(B) I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam(C) fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? I tell you, no! But unless you repent,(D) you too will all perish.”

Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any.(E) So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down!(F) Why should it use up the soil?’

“‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’”

The Law and the Promise

15 (A)To give a human example, brothers:[a] (B)even with a man-made covenant, no one annuls it or adds to it once it has been ratified. 16 Now (C)the promises were made (D)to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, (E)“And to your offspring,” who is Christ. 17 This is what I mean: the law, which came (F)430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as (G)to make the promise void. 18 For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but (H)God gave it to Abraham by a promise.

19 Why then the law? (I)It was added because of transgressions, (J)until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was (K)put in place through angels (L)by an intermediary. 20 Now (M)an intermediary implies more than one, but (N)God is one.

21 Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For (O)if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law. 22 But the Scripture (P)imprisoned everything under sin, so that (Q)the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given (R)to those who believe.

The Law and the Promise

15 Brothers and sisters,(A) let me take an example from everyday life. Just as no one can set aside or add to a human covenant that has been duly established, so it is in this case. 16 The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed.(B) Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,”[a](C) meaning one person, who is Christ. 17 What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years(D) later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise. 18 For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise;(E) but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.

19 Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions(F) until the Seed(G) to whom the promise referred had come. The law was given through angels(H) and entrusted to a mediator.(I) 20 A mediator,(J) however, implies more than one party; but God is one.

21 Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not!(K) For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law.(L) 22 But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin,(M) so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.

Children of God

23 Before the coming of this faith,[b] we were held in custody(N) under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed.(O) 24 So the law was our guardian until Christ came(P) that we might be justified by faith.(Q) 25 Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.(R)

26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God(S) through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ(T) have clothed yourselves with Christ.(U) 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free,(V) nor is there male and female,(W) for you are all one in Christ Jesus.(X) 29 If you belong to Christ,(Y) then you are Abraham’s seed,(Z) and heirs(AA) according to the promise.(AB)
