Numbers 9:6-14

King James Version

⁶And there were certain men, who were defiled by the dead body of a man, that they could not keep the passover on that day: and they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day:

⁷And those men said unto him, We are defiled by the dead body of a man: wherefore are we kept back, that we may not offer an offering of the Lord in his appointed season among the children of Israel?

⁸And Moses said unto them, Stand still, and I will hear what the Lord will command concerning you.

⁹And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

¹⁰Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If any man of you or of your posterity shall be unclean by reason of a dead body, or be in a journey afar off, yet he shall keep the passover unto the Lord.

¹¹The fourteenth day of the second month at even they shall keep it, and eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

¹²They shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break any bone of it: according to all the ordinances of the passover they shall keep it.

¹³But the man that is clean, and is not in a journey, and forbeareth to keep the passover, even the same soul shall be cut off from among his people: because he brought not the offering of the Lord in his appointed season, that man shall bear his sin.

¹⁴And if a stranger shall sojourn among you, and will keep the passover unto the Lord; according to the ordinance of the passover, and according to the manner thereof, so shall he do: ye shall have one ordinance, both for the stranger, and for him that was born in the land.

Numbers 9:6-14

New International Version

⁶But some of them could not celebrate the Passover on that day because they were ceremonially unclean^(A) on account of a dead body.^(B) So they came to Moses and Aaron^(C) that same day ⁷and said to Moses, “We have become unclean because of a dead body, but why should we be kept from presenting the Lord’s offering with the other Israelites at the appointed time?^(D)”

⁸Moses answered them, “Wait until I find out what the Lord commands concerning you.”^(E)

⁹Then the Lord said to Moses, ¹⁰“Tell the Israelites: ‘When any of you or your descendants are unclean because of a dead body^(F) or are away on a journey, they are still to celebrate^(G) the Lord’s Passover, ¹¹but they are to do it on the fourteenth day of the second month^(H) at twilight. They are to eat the lamb, together with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.^(I) ¹²They must not leave any of it till morning^(J) or break any of its bones.^(K) When they celebrate the Passover, they must follow all the regulations.^(L) ¹³But if anyone who is ceremonially clean and not on a journey fails to celebrate the Passover, they must be cut off from their people^(M) for not presenting the Lord’s offering at the appointed time. They will bear the consequences of their sin.

¹⁴“‘A foreigner^(N) residing among you is also to celebrate the Lord’s Passover in accordance with its rules and regulations. You must have the same regulations for both the foreigner and the native-born.’”

Why are we kept from presenting the offering of the Lord at its appointed time among the children of Israel?”

⁸And Moses said to them, “Stand still, that ^(C)I may hear what the Lord will command concerning you.”

⁹Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁰“Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘If anyone of you or your ^[a]posterity is unclean because of a corpse, or is far away on a journey, he may still keep the Lord’s Passover. ¹¹On ^(D)the fourteenth day of the second month, at twilight, they may keep it.
