Nehemiah 1:5-11

⁵I said, “Please, Lord God of heaven, ^(A)the great and awesome God, ^(B)who keeps the covenant and faithfulness for those who love Him and keep His commandments: ⁶^(C)let Your ear now be attentive and Your eyes open, to hear the prayer of Your servant which I am praying before You now, day and night, on behalf of the sons of Israel Your servants, ^(D)confessing the sins of the sons of Israel which we have committed against You; ^(E)I and my father’s house have sinned. ⁷^(F)We have acted very corruptly against You and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances ^(G)which You commanded Your servant Moses. ⁸Remember, please, the word which You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, ‘^(H)If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples; ⁹^(I)but if you return to Me and keep My commandments and do them, though those of you who have been scattered were in the most remote part of the heavens, I ^(J)will gather them from there and bring them ^(K)to the place where I have chosen to have My name dwell.’ ¹⁰^(L)They are Your servants and Your people whom You redeemed by Your great power and by Your strong hand. ¹¹Please, Lord, ^(M)may Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant and the prayer of Your servants who delight to ^[a]revere Your name, and please make Your servant successful today and grant him mercy before this man.”

Now I was the ^(N)cupbearer to the king.

⁵Then I said:

“Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God,^(A) who keeps his covenant of love^(B) with those who love him and keep his commandments, ⁶let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear^(C) the prayer^(D) your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess^(E) the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s family, have committed against you. ⁷We have acted very wickedly^(F) toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses.

⁸“Remember^(G) the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter^(H) you among the nations, ⁹but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather^(I) them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.’^(J)

¹⁰“They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great strength and your mighty hand.^(K) ¹¹Lord, let your ear be attentive^(L) to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor^(M) in the presence of this man.”

I was cupbearer^(N) to the king.
