My Kingdom Is Not of This World

33 (A)So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, (B)“Are you the King of the Jews?” 34 Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?” 35 Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?” 36 Jesus answered, (C)“My kingdom (D)is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, (E)my servants would have been fighting, that (F)I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”

33 Pilate then went back inside the palace,(A) summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”(B)

34 “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?”

35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”

36 Jesus said, “My kingdom(C) is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders.(D) But now my kingdom is from another place.”(E)

19 Pilate (A)also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.” 20 Many of the Jews read this inscription, for (B)the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Aramaic, in Latin, and in Greek. 21 So the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but rather, ‘This man said, I am King of the Jews.’”

19 Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: jesus of nazareth,(A) the king of the jews.(B) 20 Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city,(C) and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. 21 The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.”(D)
