Jesus Has Risen^(A)

28 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene^(B) and the other Mary^(C) went to look at the tomb.

Jesus Has Risen^(A)

16 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices^(B) so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. ² Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb

² There was a violent earthquake,^(A) for an angel^(B) of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone^(C) and sat on it. ³ His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.^{(D) 4} The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

³ and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”^(A)

⁴ But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.

³ but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.^(A)

² So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved,^(A) and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”^(B)

⁴ While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning^(A) stood beside them. ⁵ In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?

⁵ The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid,^(A) for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. ⁶ He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.^(B) Come and see the place where he lay.

⁶ He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:^{(A) 7} ‘The Son of Man^(B) must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”^(C)

⁷ But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him,^(A) just as he told you.’”^(B)
