Stumbling Blocks

⁷ “Woe to the world because of its ^[a]stumbling blocks! For ^(A)it is inevitable that ^[b]stumbling blocks come; but woe to the person through whom the ^[c]stumbling block comes!

⁸ “And ^(B)if your hand or your foot is causing you to sin, cut it off and throw it away from you; it is better for you to enter life maimed or without a foot, than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into the eternal fire. ⁹ And ^(C)if your eye is causing you to sin, tear it out and throw it away from you. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into the ^[d](D)fiery hell.

⁴² “^(A)Whoever causes one of these ^[a]little ones who believe in Me to ^[b]sin, it is better for him if a heavy millstone is hung around his neck and he ^[c]is thrown into the sea. ⁴³ And ^(B)if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed, than, having your two hands, to go into ^[d](C)hell, into the ^(D)unquenchable fire.^{[e] 45} And if your foot is causing you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life without a foot, than, having your two feet, to be thrown into ^[f](E)hell.^{[g] 47} And ^(F)if your eye is causing you to sin, throw it away; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than, having two eyes, to be thrown into ^[h](G)hell, ^48 (H)where their worm does not die, and ^(I)the fire is not extinguished. ⁴⁹ For everyone will be salted with fire. ⁵⁰ Salt is good; but ^(J)if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you ^[i]make it salty again? ^(K)Have salt in yourselves, and ^(L)be at peace with one another.”
