Jesus Transfigured on the Mount^(A)

17 Now ^(B)after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; ² and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.

³⁰ And behold, two men talked with Him, who were ^(A)Moses and ^(B)Elijah, ³¹ who appeared in glory and spoke of His ^[a]decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. ³² But Peter and those with him ^(C)were heavy with sleep; and when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men who stood with Him. ³³ Then it happened, as they were parting from Him, that Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three ^[b]tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.

³⁴ While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were fearful as they entered the ^(D)cloud. ³⁵ And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, ^(E)“This is ^[c]My beloved Son. ^(F)Hear Him!”

^6 (A)And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. ⁷ But Jesus came and ^(B)touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.” ⁸ When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.

^9 (A)Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead. ¹⁰ So they kept this word to themselves, questioning ^(B)what the rising from the dead meant.

¹⁰ And His disciples asked Him, saying, ^(A)“Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

¹¹ Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming ^[a]first and will ^(B)restore all things. ^12 (C)But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they ^(D)did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise ^(E)the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.” ^13 (F)Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.

A Boy Is Healed^(A)

^14 (B)And when He came to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes disputing with them. ¹⁵ Immediately, when they saw Him, all the people were greatly amazed, and running to Him, greeted Him. ¹⁶ And He asked the scribes, “What are you discussing with them?”

¹⁷ Then ^(C)one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit. ¹⁸ And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.”

¹⁹ He answered him and said, “O ^(D)faithless^[a] generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I ^[b]bear with you? Bring him to Me.” ²⁰ Then they brought him to Him. And ^(E)when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth.

²¹ So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?”

And he said, “From childhood. ²² And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

²³ Jesus said to him, ^(F)“If^[c] you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

²⁴ Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; ^(G)help my unbelief!”

²⁵ When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He ^(H)rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!” ²⁶ Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.” ²⁷ But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.

¹⁹ Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”

²⁰ So Jesus said to them, “Because of your ^[a]unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, ^(A)if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

²⁹ So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but ^(A)prayer ^[a]and fasting.”

Jesus Again Predicts His Death and Resurrection

³⁰ Then they departed from there and passed through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know it. ^31 (B)For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will ^(C)kill Him. And after He is killed, He will ^(D)rise the third day.”

^45 (A)But they did not understand this saying, and it was hidden from them so that they did not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this saying.
