Charitable Giving to the Poor and Prayer

6 “Take care not to practice your righteousness in the sight of people, ^(A)to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.

² “So when you ^[a]give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, so that they ^(B)will be praised by people. ^(C)Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. ³ But when you ^[b]give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, ⁴ so that your charitable giving will be in secret; and ^(D)your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

² On ^(A)the first day of every week, each of you is to ^[a]put aside and save as he may prosper, so that ^(B)no collections need to be made when I come.

¹¹ But now finish ^[a]doing it also, so that just as there was the ^(A)willingness to desire it, so there may be also the completion of it by your ability.

¹² For if the willingness is present, it is acceptable ^(A)according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.

¹⁴ at this present time your abundance will serve as assistance for ^(A)their need, so that their abundance also may ^[a]serve as assistance for ^(B)your need, so that there may be equality;

⁶ Now I say this: ^(A)the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows ^[a]generously will also reap ^[b]generously.

⁷ Each one must do just as he has decided in his heart, not ^(A)reluctantly or under compulsion, for ^(B)God loves a cheerful giver.
