The Temptation of Jesus

4 ^(A)Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness ^(B)to be tempted by the devil. ² And after He had ^(C)fasted for forty days and forty nights, He ^[a]then became hungry. ³ And ^(D)the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the ^(E)Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

³ But Peter said, “Ananias, why has ^(A)Satan filled your heart to lie ^(B)to the Holy Spirit and to ^(C)keep back some of the ^[a]proceeds of the land?

⁴ in whose case ^(A)the god of ^(B)this ^[a]world has ^(C)blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that ^[b]they will not see the ^(D)light of the gospel of the ^(E)glory of Christ, who is the ^(F)image of God.

¹⁰ And ^(A)the devil who ^(B)deceived them was thrown into the ^(C)lake of fire and ^[a]brimstone, where the ^(D)beast and the ^(E)false prophet are also; and they will be ^(F)tormented day and night forever and ever.
