(A)Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, (B)Satan! For (C)it is written,

(D)“‘You shall worship the Lord your God
    and (E)him only shall you serve.’”

11 Then the devil left him, and behold, (F)angels came and were ministering to him.

Jesus Begins His Ministry

12 Now when he heard that (G)John had been arrested, (H)he withdrew into Galilee. 13 And leaving (I)Nazareth he went and lived in (J)Capernaum by (K)the sea, in the territory of (L)Zebulun and Naphtali, 14 (M)so that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:

15 (N)“The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
    the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—
16 (O)the people dwelling in darkness
    have seen a great light,
and for those dwelling in the region and (P)shadow of death,
    on them a light has dawned.”

17 (Q)From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, (R)“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”[a]

Jesus Begins to Preach

12 When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison,(E) he withdrew to Galilee.(F) 13 Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum,(G) which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali— 14 to fulfill(H) what was said through the prophet Isaiah:

15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
    the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,
    Galilee of the Gentiles—
16 the people living in darkness
    have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
