The Faithful Servant and the Evil Servant^(A)

^45 (B)“Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food ^[a]in due season? ^46 (C)Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. ⁴⁷ Assuredly, I say to you that ^(D)he will make him ruler over all his goods. ⁴⁸ But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master ^(E)is delaying ^[b]his coming,’ ⁴⁹ and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, ⁵⁰ the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is ^(F)not aware of, ⁵¹ and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. ^(G)There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁴² And the Lord said, ^(A)“Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food ^[a]in due season? ⁴³ Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. ^44 (B)Truly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all that he has. ^45 (C)But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk, ⁴⁶ the master of that servant will come on a ^(D)day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. ⁴⁷ And ^(E)that servant who ^(F)knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. ^48 (G)But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.
