⁹ And if your eye causes you to fall away, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hellfire.^[a](A)

⁴³ “And if your hand causes you to fall away, cut it off.^(A) It is better for you to enter life maimed^(B) than to have two hands and go to hell, the unquenchable fire.^[a](C)

⁶ And the tongue is a fire. The tongue, a world of unrighteousness, is placed^[a] among our members. It stains the whole body,^(A) sets the course of life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

¹⁵ Everyone who hates his brother or sister^(A) is a murderer,^(B) and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.
