Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection(A)

21 From that time Jesus began (B)to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, [a]“Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”

23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, (C)Satan! (D)You are [b]an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”

Take Up the Cross and Follow Him(E)

24 (F)Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and (G)follow Me. 25 For (H)whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what (I)profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or (J)what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For (K)the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father (L)with His angels, (M)and then He will reward each according to his works.

Christ’s Suffering and Ours

18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring [a]us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, 20 who formerly were disobedient, [b]when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. 21 (A)There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (B)(not the removal of the filth of the flesh, (C)but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and (D)is at the right hand of God, (E)angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
