⁵⁴ He went to his hometown^(A) and began to teach them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?^(B)

The Sadducees and the Resurrection

²³ That same day some Sadducees,^(A) who say there is no resurrection, came up to him and questioned him:^(B)

²² They were astonished^(A) at his teaching^(B) because he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not like the scribes.

² When the Sabbath^(A) came, he began to teach^(B) in the synagogue,^(C) and many who heard him were astonished. “Where did this man get these things?” they said. “What is this wisdom^(D) that has been given to him, and how are these miracles^(E) performed by his hands?

¹⁸ The chief priests and the scribes^(A) heard it and started looking for a way to kill him. For they were afraid^(B) of him, because the whole crowd was astonished by his teaching.
