5 Or have you not read (A)in the Law how on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are guiltless? 6 I tell you, (B)something greater than the temple is here. 7 And if you had known (C)what this means, (D)‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. 8 For (E)the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”

5 Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath(A) and yet are innocent? 6 I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.(B) 7 If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’[a](C) you would not have condemned the innocent. 8 For the Son of Man(D) is Lord of the Sabbath.”
