¹³ “But he answered one of them, ‘I am not being unfair to you, friend.^(A) Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? ¹⁴ Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. ¹⁵ Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’^(B)

¹⁶ “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”^(C)

¹⁰ “Yet the Israelites will be like the sand on the seashore, which cannot be measured or counted.^(A) In the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ they will be called ‘children of the living God.’^(B)

²⁵ As he says in Hosea:

²⁶ and,

¹⁵ For if their rejection brought reconciliation^(A) to the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?^{(B) 16} If the part of the dough offered as firstfruits^(C) is holy, then the whole batch is holy; if the root is holy, so are the branches.

¹⁷ If some of the branches have been broken off,^(D) and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others^(E) and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, ¹⁸ do not consider yourself to be superior to those other branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you.^{(F) 19} You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” ²⁰ Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith.^(G) Do not be arrogant,^(H) but tremble.^{(I) 21} For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.

⁷ Accept one another,^(A) then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.

¹⁰ Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God;^(A) once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
