²⁰ But after he had considered this, an angel^(A) of the Lord appeared to him in a dream^(B) and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. ²¹ She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,^[a](C) because he will save his people from their sins.”^(D)

³⁰ But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid,^(A) Mary; you have found favor with God.^{(B) 31} You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.^{(C) 32} He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.^(D) The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,^(E)

¹⁴ The Word became flesh^(A) and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory,^(B) the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace^(C) and truth.^(D)
