Tentación de Jesús

(Mr. 1.12-13; Lc. 4.1-13)

4 Entonces Jesús fue llevado por el Espíritu al desierto, para ser tentado por el diablo.(A) 2 Y después de haber ayunado cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, tuvo hambre. 3 Y vino a él el tentador, y le dijo: Si eres Hijo de Dios, di que estas piedras se conviertan en pan. 4 Él respondió y dijo: Escrito está: No solo de pan vivirá el hombre, sino de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios.(B) 5 Entonces el diablo le llevó a la santa ciudad, y le puso sobre el pináculo del templo, 6 y le dijo: Si eres Hijo de Dios, échate abajo; porque escrito está:

A sus ángeles mandará acerca de ti,(C)

y,

En sus manos te sostendrán,

Para que no tropieces con tu pie en piedra.(D)

7 Jesús le dijo: Escrito está también: No tentarás al Señor tu Dios.(E) 8 Otra vez le llevó el diablo a un monte muy alto, y le mostró todos los reinos del mundo y la gloria de ellos, 9 y le dijo: Todo esto te daré, si postrado me adorares. 10 Entonces Jesús le dijo: Vete, Satanás, porque escrito está: Al Señor tu Dios adorarás, y a él sólo servirás.(F) 11 El diablo entonces le dejó; y he aquí vinieron ángeles y le servían.

Jesús principia su ministerio

(Mr. 1.14-20; Lc. 4.14-15; 5.1-11; 6.17-19)

12 Cuando Jesús oyó que Juan estaba preso,(G) volvió a Galilea; 13 y dejando a Nazaret, vino y habitó en Capernaum,(H) ciudad marítima, en la región de Zabulón y de Neftalí, 14 para que se cumpliese lo dicho por el profeta Isaías, cuando dijo:

15 Tierra de Zabulón y tierra de Neftalí,

Camino del mar, al otro lado del Jordán,

Galilea de los gentiles;

16 El pueblo asentado en tinieblas vio gran luz;

Y a los asentados en región de sombra de muerte,

Luz les resplandeció.(I)

17 Desde entonces comenzó Jesús a predicar, y a decir: Arrepentíos, porque el reino de los cielos(J) se ha acercado.(K) 18 Andando Jesús junto al mar de Galilea, vio a dos hermanos, Simón, llamado Pedro, y Andrés su hermano, que echaban la red en el mar; porque eran pescadores. 19 Y les dijo: Venid en pos de mí, y os haré pescadores de hombres. 20 Ellos entonces, dejando al instante las redes, le siguieron. 21 Pasando de allí, vio a otros dos hermanos, Jacobo hijo de Zebedeo, y Juan su hermano, en la barca con Zebedeo su padre, que remendaban sus redes; y los llamó. 22 Y ellos, dejando al instante la barca y a su padre, le siguieron.

23 Y recorrió Jesús toda Galilea, enseñando en las sinagogas de ellos, y predicando el evangelio del reino, y sanando toda enfermedad y toda dolencia en el pueblo.(L) 24 Y se difundió su fama por toda Siria; y le trajeron todos los que tenían dolencias, los afligidos por diversas enfermedades y tormentos, los endemoniados, lunáticos y paralíticos; y los sanó. 25 Y le siguió mucha gente de Galilea, de Decápolis, de Jerusalén, de Judea y del otro lado del Jordán.

El Sermón del monte: Las bienaventuranzas

(Lc. 6.20-23)

5 Viendo la multitud, subió al monte; y sentándose, vinieron a él sus discípulos. 2 Y abriendo su boca les enseñaba, diciendo:

3 Bienaventurados los pobres en espíritu, porque de ellos es el reino de los cielos.

4 Bienaventurados los que lloran,(M) porque ellos recibirán consolación.

5 Bienaventurados los mansos,(N) porque ellos recibirán la tierra por heredad.

6 Bienaventurados los que tienen hambre y sed(O) de justicia, porque ellos serán saciados.

7 Bienaventurados los misericordiosos, porque ellos alcanzarán misericordia.

8 Bienaventurados los de limpio corazón,(P) porque ellos verán a Dios.

9 Bienaventurados los pacificadores, porque ellos serán llamados hijos de Dios.

10 Bienaventurados los que padecen persecución por causa de la justicia,(Q) porque de ellos es el reino de los cielos.

11 Bienaventurados sois cuando por mi causa os vituperen y os persigan, y digan toda clase de mal contra vosotros, mintiendo.(R) 12 Gozaos y alegraos, porque vuestro galardón es grande en los cielos; porque así persiguieron a los profetas(S) que fueron antes de vosotros.

La sal de la tierra

13 Vosotros sois la sal de la tierra; pero si la sal se desvaneciere, ¿con qué será salada? No sirve más para nada, sino para ser echada fuera y hollada por los hombres.(T)

La luz del mundo

14 Vosotros sois la luz del mundo;(U) una ciudad asentada sobre un monte no se puede esconder. 15 Ni se enciende una luz y se pone debajo de un almud, sino sobre el candelero,(V) y alumbra a todos los que están en casa. 16 Así alumbre vuestra luz delante de los hombres, para que vean vuestras buenas obras, y glorifiquen a vuestro Padre que está en los cielos.(W)

Jesús y la ley

17 No penséis que he venido para abrogar la ley o los profetas; no he venido para abrogar, sino para cumplir. 18 Porque de cierto os digo que hasta que pasen el cielo y la tierra, ni una jota ni una tilde pasará de la ley, hasta que todo se haya cumplido.(X) 19 De manera que cualquiera que quebrante uno de estos mandamientos muy pequeños, y así enseñe a los hombres, muy pequeño será llamado en el reino de los cielos; mas cualquiera que los haga y los enseñe, este será llamado grande en el reino de los cielos. 20 Porque os digo que si vuestra justicia no fuere mayor que la de los escribas y fariseos, no entraréis en el reino de los cielos.

Jesús y la ira

(Lc. 12.57-59)

21 Oísteis que fue dicho a los antiguos: No matarás;(Y) y cualquiera que matare será culpable de juicio. 22 Pero yo os digo que cualquiera que se enoje contra su hermano, será culpable de juicio; y cualquiera que diga: Necio, a su hermano, será culpable ante el concilio; y cualquiera que le diga: Fatuo, quedará expuesto al infierno de fuego. 23 Por tanto, si traes tu ofrenda al altar, y allí te acuerdas de que tu hermano tiene algo contra ti, 24 deja allí tu ofrenda delante del altar, y anda, reconcíliate primero con tu hermano, y entonces ven y presenta tu ofrenda. 25 Ponte de acuerdo con tu adversario pronto, entre tanto que estás con él en el camino, no sea que el adversario te entregue al juez, y el juez al alguacil, y seas echado en la cárcel. 26 De cierto te digo que no saldrás de allí, hasta que pagues el último cuadrante.

Jesús y el adulterio

27 Oísteis que fue dicho: No cometerás adulterio.(Z) 28 Pero yo os digo que cualquiera que mira a una mujer para codiciarla, ya adulteró con ella en su corazón. 29 Por tanto, si tu ojo derecho te es ocasión de caer, sácalo, y échalo de ti; pues mejor te es que se pierda uno de tus miembros, y no que todo tu cuerpo sea echado al infierno.(AA) 30 Y si tu mano derecha te es ocasión de caer, córtala, y échala de ti; pues mejor te es que se pierda uno de tus miembros, y no que todo tu cuerpo sea echado al infierno.(AB)

Jesús y el divorcio

31 También fue dicho: Cualquiera que repudie a su mujer, dele carta de divorcio.(AC) 32 Pero yo os digo que el que repudia a su mujer, a no ser por causa de fornicación, hace que ella adultere; y el que se casa con la repudiada, comete adulterio.(AD)

Jesús y los juramentos

33 Además habéis oído que fue dicho a los antiguos: No perjurarás,(AE) sino cumplirás al Señor tus juramentos.(AF) 34 Pero yo os digo: No juréis en ninguna manera;(AG) ni por el cielo, porque es el trono de Dios;(AH) 35 ni por la tierra, porque es el estrado de sus pies;(AI) ni por Jerusalén, porque es la ciudad del gran Rey.(AJ) 36 Ni por tu cabeza jurarás, porque no puedes hacer blanco o negro un solo cabello. 37 Pero sea vuestro hablar: Sí, sí; no, no; porque lo que es más de esto, de mal procede.

El amor hacia los enemigos

(Lc. 6.27-36)

38 Oísteis que fue dicho: Ojo por ojo, y diente por diente.(AK) 39 Pero yo os digo: No resistáis al que es malo; antes, a cualquiera que te hiera en la mejilla derecha, vuélvele también la otra; 40 y al que quiera ponerte a pleito y quitarte la túnica, déjale también la capa; 41 y a cualquiera que te obligue a llevar carga por una milla, ve con él dos. 42 Al que te pida, dale; y al que quiera tomar de ti prestado, no se lo rehúses.

43 Oísteis que fue dicho: Amarás a tu prójimo,(AL) y aborrecerás a tu enemigo. 44 Pero yo os digo: Amad a vuestros enemigos, bendecid a los que os maldicen, haced bien a los que os aborrecen, y orad por los que os ultrajan y os persiguen; 45 para que seáis hijos de vuestro Padre que está en los cielos, que hace salir su sol sobre malos y buenos, y que hace llover sobre justos e injustos. 46 Porque si amáis a los que os aman, ¿qué recompensa tendréis? ¿No hacen también lo mismo los publicanos? 47 Y si saludáis a vuestros hermanos solamente, ¿qué hacéis de más? ¿No hacen también así los gentiles? 48 Sed, pues, vosotros perfectos, como vuestro Padre que está en los cielos es perfecto.(AM)

The Temptation of Jesus

4 (A)Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness (B)to be tempted by the devil. 2 And after He had (C)fasted for forty days and forty nights, He [a]then became hungry. 3 And (D)the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the (E)Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written: ‘(F)Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.’”

5 Then the devil *took Him along into (G)the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and he *said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written:

‘(H)He will give His angels orders concerning You’;

and

‘On their hands they will lift You up,
So that You do not strike Your foot against a stone.’”

7 Jesus said to him, “[b]On the other hand, it is written: ‘(I)You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

8 (J)Again, the devil *took Him along to a very high mountain and *showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; 9 and he said to Him, “(K)All these things I will give You, if You fall down and [c]worship me.” 10 Then Jesus *said to him, “Go away, Satan! For it is written: ‘(L)You shall worship the Lord your God, and [d]serve Him only.’” 11 Then the devil *left Him; and behold, (M)angels came and began to serve Him.

Jesus Begins His Ministry

12 Now when Jesus heard that (N)John had been taken into custody, (O)He withdrew into Galilee; 13 and leaving Nazareth, He came and (P)settled in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. 14 This happened so that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled:

15 “(Q)The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
[e]By the way of the sea, on the other side of the Jordan, Galilee of the [f]Gentiles—
16 (R)The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great Light,
And those who were sitting in the land and shadow of death,
Upon them a Light dawned.”

17 (S)From that time Jesus began to [g]preach and say, “(T)Repent, for the kingdom of heaven [h]is at hand.”

The First Disciples

18 (U)Now as Jesus was walking by (V)the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, (W)Simon, who was called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 And He *said to them, “[i]Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of people.” 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. 21 Going on from there He saw two other brothers, [j](X)James the son of Zebedee, and his brother [k]John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets; and He called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.

Ministry in Galilee

23 Jesus was going (Y)about in all of Galilee, (Z)teaching in their synagogues and (AA)proclaiming the [l]gospel of the kingdom, and (AB)healing every disease and every sickness among the people.

24 And the news about Him spread (AC)throughout Syria; and they brought to Him all who were ill, those suffering with various diseases and severe pain, (AD)demon-possessed, people with (AE)epilepsy, and people who were (AF)paralyzed; and He healed them. 25 Large crowds (AG)followed Him from Galilee and (AH)the Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judea, and from (AI)beyond the Jordan.

The Sermon on the Mount; The Beatitudes

5 (AJ)Now when Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on (AK)the [m]mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. 2 And (AL)He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying,

3 “[n](AM)Blessed are the poor in spirit, for (AN)theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 “Blessed are (AO)those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

5 “Blessed are (AP)the [o]gentle, for they will inherit the earth.

6 “Blessed are (AQ)those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.

7 “Blessed are (AR)the merciful, for they will receive mercy.

8 “Blessed are (AS)the pure in heart, for (AT)they will see God.

9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for (AU)they will be called sons of God.

10 “Blessed are those who have been (AV)persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for (AW)theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when people (AX)insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for (AY)in this same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Disciples and the World

13 “You are the salt of the earth; but (AZ)if the salt has become tasteless, how [p]can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by people.

14 “You are (BA)the light of the world. A city set on a [q]hill cannot be hidden; 15 (BB)nor do people light a lamp and put it under a [r]basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may (BC)see your good works, and (BD)glorify your Father who is in heaven.

17 “Do not presume that I came to abolish the (BE)Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, (BF)until heaven and earth pass away, not [s]the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished! 19 Therefore, whoever nullifies one of the least of these commandments, and teaches [t]others to do the same, shall be called least (BG)in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever [u]keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20 “For I say to you that unless your (BH)righteousness far surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Personal Relationships

21 “(BI)You have heard that [v]the ancients were told, ‘(BJ)You shall not murder,’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be answerable to (BK)the court.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be answerable to (BL)the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘[w]You good-for-nothing,’ shall be answerable to [x](BM)the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the [y](BN)fiery hell. 23 Therefore, if you are (BO)presenting your [z]offering at the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your [aa]offering there before the altar and go; first be (BP)reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your [ab]offering. 25 (BQ)[ac]Come to good terms with your accuser quickly, while you are with him on the way to court, so that your accuser will not hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and you will not be thrown into prison. 26 Truly I say to you, (BR)you will not come out of there until you have paid up the last [ad]quadrans.

27 “(BS)You have heard that it was said, ‘(BT)You shall not commit adultery’; 28 but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman (BU)with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 Now (BV)if your right eye is causing you to sin, tear it out and throw it away from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, [ae]than for your whole body to be thrown into [af](BW)hell. 30 And (BX)if your right hand is causing you to sin, cut it off and throw it away from you; for it is better for you [ag]to lose one of the parts of your body, [ah]than for your whole body to go into [ai](BY)hell.

31 “Now it was said, ‘(BZ)Whoever sends his wife away is to give her a certificate of divorce’; 32 (CA)but I say to you that everyone who [aj]divorces his wife, except for the reason of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a [ak]divorced woman commits adultery.

33 “Again, (CB)you have heard that [al]the ancients were told, ‘[am](CC)You shall not [an]make false vows, but shall fulfill your [ao]vows to the Lord.’ 34 But I say to you, (CD)take no oath at all, neither by heaven, for it is (CE)the throne of God, 35 nor by the earth, for it is the (CF)footstool of His feet, nor [ap]by Jerusalem, for it is (CG)the city of the great King. 36 Nor shall you take an oath by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black. 37 But make sure your statement is, ‘[aq]Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is [ar]of (CH)evil origin.

38 “(CI)You have heard that it was said, ‘(CJ)Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, do not show opposition against an evil person; but (CK)whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other toward him also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your [as]tunic, let him have your [at]cloak also. 41 Whoever [au]forces you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 (CL)Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.

43 “(CM)You have heard that it was said, ‘(CN)You shall love your neighbor (CO)and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, (CP)love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may prove yourselves to be (CQ)sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 For (CR)if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Even the tax collectors, do they not do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Even the Gentiles, do they not do the same? 48 Therefore (CS)you shall be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
