The Great Commission(A)

14 (B)Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. 15 (C)And He said to them, “Go into all the world (D)and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 (E)He who believes and is baptized will be saved; (F)but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these (G)signs will follow those who [a]believe: (H)In My name they will cast out demons; (I)they will speak with new tongues; 18 (J)they[b] will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; (K)they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Christ Ascends to God’s Right Hand(L)

19 So then, (M)after the Lord had spoken to them, He was (N)received up into heaven, and (O)sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them (P)and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.

The Disciples Commissioned

14 Later, Jesus appeared to the eleven [disciples] themselves as they were reclining at the table; and He called them to account for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen Him after He had risen [from death]. 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 He who has believed [in Me] and has been baptized will be saved [from the penalty of God’s wrath and judgment]; but he who has not believed will be condemned. 17 These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will get well.”

19 So then, when the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.(A) 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord was working with them and confirming the word by the signs that followed.]

14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. 20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

14 (A)[a]Finally, he appeared unto the eleven as they sat together, and reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him, being risen up again.

15 [b]And he said unto them, (B)Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to [c]every creature.

16 He that shall believe and be baptized, shall be saved: (C)but he that will not believe, shall be damned.

17 And these tokens shall follow them that believe, (D)In my Name they shall cast out devils, and (E)shall speak with [d]new tongues,

18 (F)And shall take away serpents, and if they shall drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them: (G)they shall lay their hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

19 (H)[e]So after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received into heaven, and sat at the right hand of God.

20 And they went forth, and preached everywhere. And the (I)Lord wrought with them, and confirmed [f]the word with signs that followed. Amen.

  1. Mark 16:14 The Evangelist considered not the order of the time, but the course of his history, which he divided into three parts: The first showeth how he appeared to the women, the second, to his Disciples, the third, to his Apostles, and therefore he saith, Finally.
  2. Mark 16:15 The Apostles are appointed, and their office is limited unto them, which is to preach that which they heard of him, and to minister the Sacraments, which Christ hath instituted, having besides power to do miracles.
  3. Mark 16:15 Not to the Jews only, nor in Judea only, but to all men, and everywhere: and so must all the Apostles do.
  4. Mark 16:17 Strange tongues, such as they knew not before.
  5. Mark 16:19 Christ having accomplished his office on earth, ascendeth into heaven, from whence (the doctrine of his Apostles being confirmed with signs) he will govern his Church, unto the world’s end.
  6. Mark 16:20 To wit, the doctrine: therefore doctrine must go before, and signs must follow after.

14 Afterwards, as they are reclining (at meat), he was manifested to the eleven, and did reproach their unbelief and stiffness of heart, because they believed not those having seen him being raised;

15 and he said to them, `Having gone to all the world, proclaim the good news to all the creation;

16 he who hath believed, and hath been baptized, shall be saved; and he who hath not believed, shall be condemned.

17 `And signs shall accompany those believing these things; in my name demons they shall cast out; with new tongues they shall speak;

18 serpents they shall take up; and if any deadly thing they may drink, it shall not hurt them; on the ailing they shall lay hands, and they shall be well.'

19 The Lord, then, indeed, after speaking to them, was received up to the heaven, and sat on the right hand of God;

20 and they, having gone forth, did preach everywhere, the Lord working with [them], and confirming the word, through the signs following. Amen.
