18 And the Scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how to destroy Him. For they feared Him, because the whole multitude was astonished at His doctrine.
19 But when evening came, Jesus went out of the city.
20 And in the morning, as they journeyed together, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.

18 The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him,(A) because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.(B)
19 When evening came, Jesus and his disciples[a] went out of the city.(C)
20 In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots.
