18 Then the chief priests and the scribes(A) heard it and started looking for a way to destroy Him. For they were afraid(B) of Him, because the whole crowd was astonished by His teaching.
19 And whenever evening came, they would go out of the city.
The Barren Fig Tree Is Withered
20 Early(C) in the morning, as they were passing by, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up.

18 The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him,(A) because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.(B)
19 When evening came, Jesus and his disciples[a] went out of the city.(C)
20 In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots.
