Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles

9 ^(A)And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, ^2 (B)and he sent them out to ^(C)proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. ^3 (D)And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, ^(E)no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics.^{[a] 4} And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. ⁵ And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town ^(F)shake off the dust from your feet ^(G)as a testimony ^(H)against them.”

Scripture Must Be Fulfilled in Jesus

³⁵ And he said to them, ^(A)“When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.”

^9 (A)Acquire no gold or silver or copper for your belts, ¹⁰ no bag for your journey, or two tunics^[a] or sandals or a staff, for ^(B)the laborer deserves his food. ¹¹ And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it and stay there until you depart. ¹² As you enter the house, ^(C)greet it. ¹³ And if the house is ^(D)worthy, let ^(E)your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let ^(F)your peace return to you. ¹⁴ And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, ^(G)shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town. ¹⁵ Truly, I say to you, ^(H)it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for ^(I)the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.

⁸ He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts— ⁹ but to ^(A)wear sandals and not put on two tunics.^{[a] 10} And he said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there. ¹¹ And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, ^(B)shake off the dust that is on your feet ^(C)as a testimony against them.”
