Jesus Dies on the Cross^(A)

^44 (B)Now it ^[a]was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. ⁴⁵ Then the sun was ^[b]darkened, and ^(C)the veil of the temple was torn in ^[c]two. ⁴⁶ And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ^(D)‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ ” ^(E)Having said this, He breathed His last.

^47 (F)So when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous Man!”

⁴⁸ And the whole crowd who came together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their breasts and returned. ^49 (G)But all His acquaintances, and the women who followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.

³ And Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke, saying:

So Aaron held his peace.

³⁰ So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ^(A)“It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

⁹ For ^(A)in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead ^[a]bodily; ¹⁰ and you are complete in Him, who is the ^(B)head of all ^[b]principality and power.

^14 (A)having wiped out the ^[a]handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. ^15 (B)Having disarmed ^(C)principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

⁵⁶ The sting of death is sin, and ^(B)the strength of sin is the law. ^57 (C)But thanks be to God, who gives us ^(D)the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Hold Fast Your Confession

¹⁹ Therefore, brethren, having ^(A)boldness^[a] to enter ^(B)the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, ²⁰ by a new and ^(C)living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, ²¹ and having a High Priest over the house of God, ²² let us ^(D)draw near with a true heart ^(E)in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. ²³ Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for ^(F)He who promised is faithful.
