13 And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it (A)with joy. But these have no root; they (B)believe for a while, and in time of testing (C)fall away. 14 And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but (D)as they go on their way they are choked by the (E)cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature. 15 As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and (F)bear fruit (G)with patience.

16 (H)(I)“No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light.

13 Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.(A) 14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches(B) and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.

16 “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.(C)
