Love Your Enemies(A)

27 (B)“But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 (C)bless those who curse you, and (D)pray for those who spitefully use you. 29 (E)To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. (F)And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. 30 (G)Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. 31 (H)And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.

32 (I)“But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34 (J)And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. 35 But (K)love your enemies, (L)do good, and (M)lend, [a]hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and (N)you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. 36 (O)Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.

Do Not Judge(P)

37 (Q)“Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. (R)Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 (S)Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your (T)bosom. For (U)with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

39 And He spoke a parable to them: (V)“Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch? 40 (W)A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher. 41 (X)And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? 42 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother’s eye.

A Tree Is Known by Its Fruit(Y)

43 (Z)“For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 For (AA)every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. 45 (AB)A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil [b]treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out (AC)of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Build on the Rock(AD)

46 (AE)“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? 47 (AF)Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was [c]founded on the rock. 49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it [d]fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

Love for Enemies(A)

27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,(B) 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.(C) 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.(D) 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.(E)

32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?(F) Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you?(G) Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them,(H) and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children(I) of the Most High,(J) because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful,(K) just as your Father(L) is merciful.

Judging Others(M)

37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.(N) Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.(O) 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.(P) For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”(Q)

39 He also told them this parable: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?(R) 40 The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.(S)

41 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

A Tree and Its Fruit(T)

43 “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 Each tree is recognized by its own fruit.(U) People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. 45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.(V)

The Wise and Foolish Builders(W)

46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’(X) and do not do what I say?(Y) 47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice,(Z) I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
