8 In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock at night. 9 And (A)an angel of the Lord suddenly (B)stood near them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. 10 And so the angel said to them, “(C)Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; 11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a (D)Savior, who is [a](E)Christ (F)the Lord. 12 And (G)this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a [b]manger.”

The Message
An Event for Everyone
8-12 There were shepherds camping in the neighborhood. They had set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God’s angel stood among them and God’s glory blazed around them. They were terrified. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master. This is what you’re to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger.”
