^44 (A)It was now about ^[a](B)the sixth hour, and darkness came over the entire land until ^[b]the ninth hour, ^45 [c]because the sun stopped shining; and ^(C)the veil of the temple was torn ^[d]in two. ⁴⁶ And Jesus, ^(D)crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, ^(E)into Your hands I entrust My spirit.” And having said this, He ^[e]died. ^47 (F)Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began ^(G)praising God, saying, “This man was in fact ^[f]innocent.” ⁴⁸ And all the crowds who came together for this spectacle, after watching what had happened, began to return home, ^[g](H)beating their chests. ^49 (I)And all His acquaintances and ^(J)the women who accompanied Him from Galilee were standing at a distance, seeing these things.

Jesus Is Buried

^50 (K)And a man named Joseph, who was a ^(L)member of the Council, a good and righteous man ⁵¹ (he had not consented to their plan and action), a man from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who was ^(M)waiting for the kingdom of God— ⁵² this man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. ⁵³ And he took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had ever lain. ⁵⁴ It was a ^[h](N)preparation day, and a Sabbath was about to ^[i]begin. ⁵⁵ Now ^(O)the women who had come with Him from Galilee followed, and they saw the tomb and how His body was laid. ⁵⁶ And then they returned and ^(P)prepared spices and perfumes.

And ^(Q)on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

The Resurrection

24 ^(R)But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. ² And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, ³ but when they entered, they did not find the body of ^(S)the Lord Jesus. ⁴ While they were perplexed about this, behold, ^(T)two men suddenly ^(U)stood near them in gleaming clothing; ⁵ and as ^[j]the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why are you seeking the living One among the dead? ⁶ He is not here, but He ^(V)has ^[k]risen. Remember how He spoke to you ^(W)while He was still in Galilee, ⁷ saying that ^(X)the Son of Man must be handed over to sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise from the dead.” ⁸ And ^(Y)they remembered His words,

²⁴ But ^(A)Thomas, one of ^(B)the twelve, who was called ^[a](C)Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. ²⁵ So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in ^(D)His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, ^(E)I will not believe.”

^26 [b]Eight days later His disciples were again inside, and Thomas was with them. Jesus *came, the doors having been ^[c]shut, and stood in their midst and said, “^(F)Peace be to you.” ²⁷ Then He *said to Thomas, “^(G)Place your finger here, and see My hands; and take your hand and put it into My side; and do not continue in disbelief, but be a believer.” ²⁸ Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” ²⁹ Jesus *said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you now believed? ^(H)Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”

³ For ^(A)I handed down to you ^[a]as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died ^(B)for our sins ^(C)according to the Scriptures, ⁴ and that He was buried, and that He was ^(D)raised on the third day ^(E)according to the Scriptures, ⁵ and that ^(F)He appeared to ^[b](G)Cephas, then ^(H)to the twelve. ⁶ After that He appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some ^(I)have fallen asleep; ⁷ then He appeared to ^[c](J)James, then to ^(K)all the apostles; ⁸ and last of all, as ^[d]to one untimely born, ^(L)He appeared to me also.
