The Parable of the Fig Tree(A)

29 (B)Then He spoke to them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30 When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. 31 So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. 32 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place. 33 (C)Heaven and earth will pass away, but My (D)words will by no means pass away.

The Importance of Watching(E)

34 “But (F)take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with [a]carousing, drunkenness, and (G)cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For (H)it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 (I)Watch therefore, and (J)pray always that you may [b]be counted (K)worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and (L)to stand before the Son of Man.”

37 (M)And in the daytime He was teaching in the temple, but (N)at night He went out and stayed on the mountain called Olivet. 38 Then early in the morning all the people came to Him in the temple to hear Him.

32 “Truly I tell you, this generation(B) will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.(C)

34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life,(D) and that day will close on you suddenly(E) like a trap. 35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be always on the watch, and pray(F) that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

37 Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple,(G) and each evening he went out(H) to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives,(I) 38 and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple.(J)
