37 Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to (A)rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, 38 saying:

(B)‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’
(C)Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

39 And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.”

40 But He answered and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, (D)the stones would immediately cry out.”

Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem

41 Now as He drew near, He saw the city and (E)wept over it, 42 saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this (F)your day, the things that (G)make for your (H)peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43 For days will come upon you when your enemies will (I)build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, 44 (J)and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and (K)they will not leave in you one stone upon another, (L)because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives,(A) the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:

38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”[a](B)

39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”(D)

40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”(E)

41 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it(F) 42 and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side.(G) 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls.(H) They will not leave one stone on another,(I) because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming(J) to you.”
