13 But the tax collector, (A)standing far off, (B)would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but (C)beat his breast, saying, ‘God, (D)be merciful to me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For (E)everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Let the Children Come to Me

15 (F)Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they (G)rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called them to him, saying, (H)“Let the children come to me, and (I)do not hinder them, (J)for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 17 (K)Truly, I say to you, whoever does not (L)receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”

The Rich Ruler

18 (M)And a ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to (N)inherit eternal life?” 19 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: (O)‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’” 21 And he said, (P)“All these I have kept from my youth.”

15 People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child(E) will never enter it.”

The Rich and the Kingdom of God(F)

18 A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”(G)

19 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’[a](H)

21 “All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said.
