⁸ Then the Lord said to Aaron, ⁹ “You and your sons are not to drink wine^(A) or other fermented drink^(B) whenever you go into the tent of meeting, or you will die. This is a lasting ordinance^(C) for the generations to come, ¹⁰ so that you can distinguish between the holy and the common, between the unclean and the clean,^(D)

²¹ It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother or sister to fall.^(A)

³ not given to drunkenness,^(A) not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome,^(B) not a lover of money.^(C)

⁷ Since an overseer^(A) manages God’s household,^(B) he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.^(C)
