Laws for Grain Offerings
2 “When anyone brings a (A)grain offering as an offering to the Lord, his offering shall be of fine flour. (B)He shall pour oil on it and put frankincense on it 2 and bring it to Aaron's sons the priests. And he shall take from it a handful of the fine flour and oil, with all of its frankincense, and the priest shall burn this as its (C)memorial portion on the altar, a food (D)offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 3 But the (E)rest of the grain offering shall be for Aaron and his sons; (F)it is a most holy part of the Lord's food offerings.
4 “When you bring a grain offering baked in the oven as an offering, it shall be (G)unleavened loaves of fine flour mixed with oil or unleavened wafers smeared with oil. 5 And if your offering is a grain offering (H)baked on a griddle, it shall be of fine flour unleavened, mixed with oil. 6 You shall break it in pieces and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering. 7 And if your offering is a grain offering cooked in a pan, it shall be made of fine flour with oil. 8 And you shall bring the grain offering that is made of these things to the Lord, and when it is presented to the priest, he shall bring it to the altar. 9 And the priest shall take from the grain offering its memorial portion and burn this on the altar, a food (I)offering with a (J)pleasing aroma to the Lord. 10 But the (K)rest of the grain offering shall be for Aaron and his sons; (L)it is a most holy part of the Lord's food offerings.
11 “No grain offering that you bring to the Lord shall be made with (M)leaven, for you shall burn no leaven nor any honey as a food offering to the Lord. 12 (N)As an offering of firstfruits you may bring them to the Lord, but they shall not be offered on the altar for a pleasing aroma. 13 You (O)shall season all your grain offerings with salt. You shall not let the (P)salt of the covenant with your God be missing from your grain offering; (Q)with all your offerings you shall offer salt.
14 “If you offer a grain offering of firstfruits to the Lord, you shall offer for the grain offering of your firstfruits fresh (R)ears, roasted with fire, crushed new grain. 15 And (S)you shall put oil on it and lay frankincense on it; it is a grain offering. 16 And the priest shall burn as its (T)memorial portion some of the crushed grain and some of the oil with all of its frankincense; it is a food offering to the Lord.

2 “‘When anyone brings a grain offering(A) to the Lord, their offering is to be of the finest flour.(B) They are to pour olive oil(C) on it,(D) put incense on it(E) 2 and take it to Aaron’s sons the priests. The priest shall take a handful of the flour(F) and oil, together with all the incense,(G) and burn this as a memorial[a] portion(H) on the altar, a food offering,(I) an aroma pleasing to the Lord.(J) 3 The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons;(K) it is a most holy(L) part of the food offerings presented to the Lord.
4 “‘If you bring a grain offering baked in an oven,(M) it is to consist of the finest flour: either thick loaves made without yeast and with olive oil mixed in or thin loaves(N) made without yeast and brushed with olive oil.(O) 5 If your grain offering is prepared on a griddle,(P) it is to be made of the finest flour mixed with oil, and without yeast. 6 Crumble it and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering. 7 If your grain offering is cooked in a pan,(Q) it is to be made of the finest flour and some olive oil. 8 Bring the grain offering made of these things to the Lord; present it to the priest, who shall take it to the altar. 9 He shall take out the memorial portion(R) from the grain offering and burn it on the altar as a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.(S) 10 The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons;(T) it is a most holy part of the food offerings presented to the Lord.(U)
11 “‘Every grain offering you bring to the Lord must be made without yeast,(V) for you are not to burn any yeast or honey in a food offering presented to the Lord. 12 You may bring them to the Lord as an offering of the firstfruits,(W) but they are not to be offered on the altar as a pleasing aroma. 13 Season all your grain offerings with salt.(X) Do not leave the salt of the covenant(Y) of your God out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings.
14 “‘If you bring a grain offering of firstfruits(Z) to the Lord, offer crushed heads of new grain roasted in the fire. 15 Put oil and incense(AA) on it; it is a grain offering. 16 The priest shall burn the memorial portion(AB) of the crushed grain and the oil, together with all the incense,(AC) as a food offering presented to the Lord.(AD)

Rehoboam's Folly
12 (A)Rehoboam went to (B)Shechem, for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king. 2 And as soon as (C)Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for (D)he was still in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon), then Jeroboam returned from[a] Egypt. 3 And they sent and called him, and Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came and said to Rehoboam, 4 (E)“Your father made our yoke heavy. Now therefore lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke on us, and we will serve you.” 5 He said to them, (F)“Go away for three days, then come again to me.” So the people went away.
6 Then King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he was yet alive, saying, “How do you advise me to answer this people?” 7 And they said to him, “If you will be a servant to this people today and serve them, and speak good words to them when you answer them, then they will be your servants forever.” 8 But he abandoned the counsel that the old men gave him and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him and stood before him. 9 And he said to them, “What do you advise that we answer this people who have said to me, ‘Lighten the yoke that your father put on us’?” 10 And the young men who had grown up with him said to him, “Thus shall you speak to this people who said to you, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but you lighten it for us,’ thus shall you say to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father's thighs. 11 And now, whereas (G)my father laid on you a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. My father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.’”
12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king said, (H)“Come to me again the third day.” 13 And the king answered the people harshly, and forsaking the counsel that the old men had given him, 14 he spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, (I)“My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.” 15 So the king did not listen to the people, for (J)it was a turn of affairs brought about by the Lord that he might fulfill his word, which (K)the Lord spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
The Kingdom Divided
16 And when all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, “What portion do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. (L)To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, David.” So Israel went to their tents. 17 But Rehoboam reigned over (M)the people of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah. 18 Then King Rehoboam sent (N)Adoram, who was taskmaster over the forced labor, and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. And King Rehoboam hurried to mount his chariot to flee to Jerusalem. 19 (O)So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.

Israel Rebels Against Rehoboam(A)
12 Rehoboam went to Shechem,(B) for all Israel had gone there to make him king. 2 When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard this (he was still in Egypt, where he had fled(C) from King Solomon), he returned from[a] Egypt. 3 So they sent for Jeroboam, and he and the whole assembly of Israel went to Rehoboam and said to him: 4 “Your father put a heavy yoke(D) on us, but now lighten the harsh labor and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”
5 Rehoboam answered, “Go away for three days and then come back to me.” So the people went away.
6 Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders(E) who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime. “How would you advise me to answer these people?” he asked.
7 They replied, “If today you will be a servant to these people and serve them and give them a favorable answer,(F) they will always be your servants.”
8 But Rehoboam rejected(G) the advice the elders gave him and consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him. 9 He asked them, “What is your advice? How should we answer these people who say to me, ‘Lighten the yoke your father put on us’?”
10 The young men who had grown up with him replied, “These people have said to you, ‘Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but make our yoke lighter.’ Now tell them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist. 11 My father laid on you a heavy yoke; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.’”
12 Three days later Jeroboam and all the people returned to Rehoboam, as the king had said, “Come back to me in three days.” 13 The king answered the people harshly. Rejecting the advice given him by the elders, 14 he followed the advice of the young men and said, “My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged(H) you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.” 15 So the king did not listen to the people, for this turn of events was from the Lord,(I) to fulfill the word the Lord had spoken to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah(J) the Shilonite.
16 When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, they answered the king:
“What share(K) do we have in David,
what part in Jesse’s son?
To your tents, Israel!(L)
Look after your own house, David!”
So the Israelites went home.(M) 17 But as for the Israelites who were living in the towns of Judah,(N) Rehoboam still ruled over them.
18 King Rehoboam sent out Adoniram,[b](O) who was in charge of forced labor, but all Israel stoned him to death.(P) King Rehoboam, however, managed to get into his chariot and escape to Jerusalem. 19 So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David(Q) to this day.

25 “Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain,
declares the Lord,
which destroys the whole earth;
I will stretch out my hand against you,
and roll you down from the crags,
(B)and make you a burnt mountain.
26 No (C)stone shall be taken from you for a corner
and no stone for a foundation,
but you shall be (D)a perpetual waste,
declares the Lord.
27 (E)“Set up a standard on the earth;
(F)blow the trumpet among the nations;
(G)prepare (H)the nations for war against her;
summon against her (I)the kingdoms,
(J)Ararat, Minni, and (K)Ashkenaz;
appoint a (L)marshal against her;
(M)bring up horses like bristling locusts.
28 (N)Prepare (O)the nations for war against her,
the kings of (P)the Medes, (Q)with their governors (R)and deputies,
and every (S)land under their dominion.
29 (T)The land trembles and writhes in pain,
(U)for the Lord's purposes against Babylon stand,
to make the land of Babylon a desolation,
without inhabitant.
30 The warriors of Babylon have ceased fighting;
they remain in their strongholds;
their strength has failed;
(V)they have become women;
(W)her dwellings are on fire;
(X)her bars are broken.
31 One (Y)runner runs to meet another,
and one messenger to meet another,
to tell the king of Babylon
that his city is taken on every side;
32 the fords have been (Z)seized,
the marshes are burned with fire,
and the soldiers are in panic.
33 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:
(AA)The daughter of Babylon is like (AB)a threshing floor
at the time when it is trodden;
yet a little while
and (AC)the time of her harvest will come.”
34 “Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon (AD)has devoured me;
he has crushed me;
he has made me an empty vessel;
(AE)he has swallowed me like (AF)a monster;
he has filled his stomach with my delicacies;
he has rinsed me out.[a]
35 The violence done to me and to my kinsmen be upon Babylon,”
let the inhabitant of Zion say.
“My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea,”
let Jerusalem say.
36 Therefore thus says the Lord:
“Behold, (AG)I will plead your cause
and take vengeance for you.
(AH)I will dry up her sea
and (AI)make her fountain dry,
37 and Babylon shall become (AJ)a heap of ruins,
(AK)the haunt of jackals,
(AL)a horror (AM)and a hissing,
without inhabitant.
38 (AN)“They shall roar together (AO)like lions;
they shall growl like lions' cubs.
39 (AP)While they are inflamed (AQ)I will prepare them a feast
and (AR)make them drunk, that they may become merry,
(AS)then sleep a perpetual sleep
and not wake, declares the Lord.
40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter,
like rams and male goats.
41 “How (AT)Babylon[b] is taken,
(AU)the praise of the whole earth (AV)seized!
How Babylon has become
a horror among the nations!
42 (AW)The sea has come up on Babylon;
she is covered with its tumultuous waves.
43 Her cities have become a horror,
(AX)a land of drought and a desert,
(AY)a land in which no one dwells,
and through which no son of man passes.
44 And I will punish (AZ)Bel in Babylon,
and (BA)take out of his mouth (BB)what he has swallowed.
(BC)The nations shall no longer flow to him;
(BD)the wall of Babylon has fallen.
45 “Go out of the midst of her, (BE)my people!
Let every one save his life
from (BF)the fierce anger of the Lord!

30 Babylon’s warriors(S) have stopped fighting;
they remain in their strongholds.
Their strength is exhausted;

Her dwellings are set on fire;(U)
the bars(V) of her gates are broken.
31 One courier(W) follows another
and messenger follows messenger
to announce to the king of Babylon
that his entire city is captured,(X)
32 the river crossings seized,

and the soldiers terrified.(Z)”
33 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says:
“Daughter Babylon(AA) is like a threshing floor(AB)
at the time it is trampled;
the time to harvest(AC) her will soon come.(AD)”
34 “Nebuchadnezzar(AE) king of Babylon has devoured(AF) us,(AG)
he has thrown us into confusion,
he has made us an empty jar.
Like a serpent he has swallowed us
and filled his stomach with our delicacies,
and then has spewed(AH) us out.
35 May the violence(AI) done to our flesh[b] be on Babylon,”
say the inhabitants of Zion.
“May our blood be on those who live in Babylonia,”
says Jerusalem.(AJ)
36 Therefore this is what the Lord says:
“See, I will defend your cause(AK)
and avenge(AL) you;
I will dry up(AM) her sea
and make her springs dry.
37 Babylon will be a heap of ruins,
a haunt(AN) of jackals,
an object of horror and scorn,(AO)
a place where no one lives.(AP)
38 Her people all roar like young lions,(AQ)

39 But while they are aroused,
I will set out a feast for them

so that they shout with laughter—

And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? 3 Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life! 4 So if you have such cases, (C)why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church? 5 (D)I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, 6 but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? 7 To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. (E)Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? 8 But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even (F)your own brothers![a]
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous[b] will not inherit the kingdom of God? 7 The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged?
