⁸ Then the sons of Judah fought against ^(A)Jerusalem and captured it, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

³⁵ Who among all the gods of the lands are there who have saved their land from my hand, ^(A)that the Lord would save Jerusalem from my hand?’”

¹⁰ “This is what you shall say to Hezekiah king of ^[a]Judah: ‘Do not ^(A)let your God in whom you trust deceive you by saying, “^(B)Jerusalem will not be handed over to the king of Assyria.”

¹⁵ Jehozadak went along when the Lord led Judah and Jerusalem into exile ^[a]by Nebuchadnezzar.

Plunder Impoverishes Judah

^9 (A)So Shishak king of Egypt went up against Jerusalem, and he took the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king’s palace. He took everything; ^(B)he even took the gold shields which Solomon had made.

¹⁸ And they abandoned ^(A)the house of the Lord, the God of their fathers, and ^(B)served the ^[a]Asherim and the idols; so ^(C)wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this guilt of theirs.

^12 (A)Is it not the same Hezekiah who removed His high places and His altars, and said to Judah and ^[a]Jerusalem, “You shall worship before one altar, and on it you shall ^[b]burn incense”?

¹⁹ They spoke ^[a]of the God of Jerusalem as they did against ^(A)the gods of the peoples of the earth, the work of human hands.

²⁵ But Hezekiah did nothing in return for the benefit ^[a]he received, ^(A)because his heart was ^[b]proud; ^(B)therefore wrath came upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
