A donde yo voy, vosotros no podéis venir

21 Otra vez les dijo Jesús: Yo me voy, y me buscaréis, pero en vuestro pecado moriréis; a donde yo voy, vosotros no podéis venir. 22 Decían entonces los judíos: ¿Acaso se matará a sí mismo, que dice: A donde yo voy, vosotros no podéis venir? 23 Y les dijo: Vosotros sois de abajo, yo soy de arriba; vosotros sois de este mundo, yo no soy de este mundo. 24 Por eso os dije que moriréis en vuestros pecados; porque si no creéis que yo soy, en vuestros pecados moriréis. 25 Entonces le dijeron: ¿Tú quién eres? Entonces Jesús les dijo: Lo que desde el principio os he dicho. 26 Muchas cosas tengo que decir y juzgar de vosotros; pero el que me envió es verdadero; y yo, lo que he oído de él, esto hablo al mundo. 27 Pero no entendieron que les hablaba del Padre. 28 Les dijo, pues, Jesús: Cuando hayáis levantado al Hijo del Hombre, entonces conoceréis que yo soy, y que nada hago por mí mismo, sino que según me enseñó el Padre, así hablo. 29 Porque el que me envió, conmigo está; no me ha dejado solo el Padre, porque yo hago siempre lo que le agrada. 30 Hablando él estas cosas, muchos creyeron en él.

La verdad os hará libres

31 Dijo entonces Jesús a los judíos que habían creído en él: Si vosotros permaneciereis en mi palabra, seréis verdaderamente mis discípulos; 32 y conoceréis la verdad, y la verdad os hará libres. 33 Le respondieron: Linaje de Abraham somos,(A) y jamás hemos sido esclavos de nadie. ¿Cómo dices tú: Seréis libres?

34 Jesús les respondió: De cierto, de cierto os digo, que todo aquel que hace pecado, esclavo es del pecado. 35 Y el esclavo no queda en la casa para siempre; el hijo sí queda para siempre. 36 Así que, si el Hijo os libertare, seréis verdaderamente libres. 37 Sé que sois descendientes de Abraham; pero procuráis matarme, porque mi palabra no halla cabida en vosotros. 38 Yo hablo lo que he visto cerca del Padre; y vosotros hacéis lo que habéis oído cerca de vuestro padre.

Sois de vuestro padre el diablo

39 Respondieron y le dijeron: Nuestro padre es Abraham. Jesús les dijo: Si fueseis hijos de Abraham, las obras de Abraham haríais. 40 Pero ahora procuráis matarme a mí, hombre que os he hablado la verdad, la cual he oído de Dios; no hizo esto Abraham. 41 Vosotros hacéis las obras de vuestro padre. Entonces le dijeron: Nosotros no somos nacidos de fornicación; un padre tenemos, que es Dios. 42 Jesús entonces les dijo: Si vuestro padre fuese Dios, ciertamente me amaríais; porque yo de Dios he salido, y he venido; pues no he venido de mí mismo, sino que él me envió. 43 ¿Por qué no entendéis mi lenguaje? Porque no podéis escuchar mi palabra. 44 Vosotros sois de vuestro padre el diablo, y los deseos de vuestro padre queréis hacer. Él ha sido homicida desde el principio, y no ha permanecido en la verdad, porque no hay verdad en él. Cuando habla mentira, de suyo habla; porque es mentiroso, y padre de mentira. 45 Y a mí, porque digo la verdad, no me creéis. 46 ¿Quién de vosotros me redarguye de pecado? Pues si digo la verdad, ¿por qué vosotros no me creéis? 47 El que es de Dios, las palabras de Dios oye; por esto no las oís vosotros, porque no sois de Dios.

La preexistencia de Cristo

48 Respondieron entonces los judíos, y le dijeron: ¿No decimos bien nosotros, que tú eres samaritano, y que tienes demonio? 49 Respondió Jesús: Yo no tengo demonio, antes honro a mi Padre; y vosotros me deshonráis. 50 Pero yo no busco mi gloria; hay quien la busca, y juzga. 51 De cierto, de cierto os digo, que el que guarda mi palabra, nunca verá muerte. 52 Entonces los judíos le dijeron: Ahora conocemos que tienes demonio. Abraham murió, y los profetas; y tú dices: El que guarda mi palabra, nunca sufrirá muerte. 53 ¿Eres tú acaso mayor que nuestro padre Abraham, el cual murió? ¡Y los profetas murieron! ¿Quién te haces a ti mismo? 54 Respondió Jesús: Si yo me glorifico a mí mismo, mi gloria nada es; mi Padre es el que me glorifica, el que vosotros decís que es vuestro Dios. 55 Pero vosotros no le conocéis; mas yo le conozco, y si dijere que no le conozco, sería mentiroso como vosotros; pero le conozco, y guardo su palabra. 56 Abraham vuestro padre se gozó de que había de ver mi día; y lo vio, y se gozó. 57 Entonces le dijeron los judíos: Aún no tienes cincuenta años, ¿y has visto a Abraham? 58 Jesús les dijo: De cierto, de cierto os digo: Antes que Abraham fuese, yo soy. 59 Tomaron entonces piedras para arrojárselas; pero Jesús se escondió y salió del templo; y atravesando por en medio de ellos, se fue.

21 Then He said again to them, “I am going away, and (A)you will look for Me, and (B)will die in your sin; where I am going, you cannot come.” 22 So (C)the Jews were saying, “Surely He will not kill Himself, will He, since He says, ‘(D)Where I am going, you cannot come’?” 23 And He was saying to them, “(E)You are from below, I am from above; (F)you are of this world, (G)I am not of this world. 24 Therefore I said to you that you (H)will die in your sins; for unless you believe that [a](I)I am, (J)you will die in your sins.” 25 Then they were saying to Him, “Who are You?” Jesus said to them, “[b]What have I even been saying to you from the beginning? 26 I have many things to say and to judge regarding you, but (K)He who sent Me is true; and (L)the things which I heard from Him, these I say to the world.” 27 They did not realize that He was speaking to them about the Father. 28 So Jesus said, “When you (M)lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that [c](N)I am, and (O)I do nothing [d]on My own, but I say these things as the Father instructed Me. 29 And He who sent Me is with Me; (P)He [e]has not left Me alone, for (Q)I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.” 30 As He said these things, (R)many came to believe in Him.

The Truth Will Set You Free

31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “(S)If you continue in My word, then you are truly My (T)disciples; 32 and (U)you will know the truth, and (V)the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered Him, “(W)We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?”

34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly I say to you, (X)everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 Now (Y)the slave does not remain in the house forever; (Z)the son does remain forever. 36 So if the Son (AA)sets you free, you really will be free. 37 I know that you are (AB)Abraham’s descendants; yet (AC)you are seeking to kill Me, because My word [f]has no place in you. 38 I speak of the things which I have seen [g]with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from (AD)your father.”

39 They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is (AE)our father.” Jesus *said to them, “(AF)If you are Abraham’s children, do the deeds of Abraham. 40 But as it is, (AG)you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has (AH)told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do. 41 You are doing the deeds of (AI)your father.” They said to Him, “We were not born as a result of sexual immorality; (AJ)we have one Father: God.” 42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, (AK)you would love Me, (AL)for I came forth from God and am here; for I have (AM)not even come [h]on My own, but [i](AN)He sent Me. 43 Why do you not understand [j](AO)what I am saying? It is because you cannot (AP)listen to My word. 44 (AQ)You are of (AR)your father the devil, and (AS)you want to do the desires of your father. (AT)He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because (AU)there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells [k]a lie, he (AV)speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of [l]lies. 45 But because (AW)I say the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If (AX)I speak truth, why do you not believe Me? 47 (AY)The one who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.”

48 (AZ)The Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not rightly say that You are a (BA)Samaritan, and You (BB)have a demon?” 49 Jesus answered, “I do not (BC)have a demon; on the contrary, I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me. 50 But (BD)I am not seeking My glory; there is One who seeks it, and judges. 51 Truly, truly I say to you, if anyone (BE)follows My word, he will never (BF)see death.” 52 (BG)The Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You (BH)have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets as well; and yet You say, ‘If anyone (BI)follows My word, he will never (BJ)taste of death.’ 53 You (BK)are not greater than our father Abraham, who died, are You? The prophets died too. Whom do You make Yourself out to be?” 54 Jesus answered, “(BL)If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; (BM)it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God’; 55 and (BN)you have not come to know Him, (BO)but I know Him. And if I say that I do not know Him, I will be (BP)a liar like you; (BQ)but I do know Him, and I (BR)follow His word. 56 (BS)Your father Abraham was (BT)overjoyed that he would see My day, and he saw it and rejoiced.” 57 (BU)So the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and You have seen Abraham?” 58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham [m]was born, [n](BV)I am.” 59 Therefore they (BW)picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus (BX)hid Himself and left the temple grounds.

Misión de los setenta

10 Después de estas cosas, designó el Señor también a otros setenta, a quienes envió de dos en dos delante de él a toda ciudad y lugar adonde él había de ir. 2 Y les decía: La mies a la verdad es mucha, mas los obreros pocos; por tanto, rogad al Señor de la mies que envíe obreros a su mies.(A) 3 Id; he aquí yo os envío como corderos en medio de lobos.(B) 4 No llevéis bolsa, ni alforja, ni calzado; y a nadie saludéis por el camino. 5 En cualquier casa donde entréis, primeramente decid: Paz sea a esta casa. 6 Y si hubiere allí algún hijo de paz, vuestra paz reposará sobre él; y si no, se volverá a vosotros. 7 Y posad en aquella misma casa, comiendo y bebiendo lo que os den; porque el obrero es digno de su salario.(C) No os paséis de casa en casa. 8 En cualquier ciudad donde entréis, y os reciban, comed lo que os pongan delante; 9 y sanad a los enfermos que en ella haya, y decidles: Se ha acercado a vosotros el reino de Dios. 10 Mas en cualquier ciudad donde entréis, y no os reciban, saliendo por sus calles, decid: 11 Aun el polvo de vuestra ciudad, que se ha pegado a nuestros pies, lo sacudimos contra vosotros.(D) Pero esto sabed, que el reino de Dios se ha acercado a vosotros.(E) 12 Y os digo que en aquel día será más tolerable el castigo para Sodoma,(F) que para aquella ciudad.(G)

Ayes sobre las ciudades impenitentes

(Mt. 11.20-24)

13 ¡Ay de ti, Corazín! ¡Ay de ti, Betsaida! que si en Tiro y en Sidón(H) se hubieran hecho los milagros que se han hecho en vosotras, tiempo ha que sentadas en cilicio y ceniza, se habrían arrepentido. 14 Por tanto, en el juicio será más tolerable el castigo para Tiro y Sidón, que para vosotras. 15 Y tú, Capernaum, que hasta los cielos eres levantada, hasta el Hades serás abatida.(I)

16 El que a vosotros oye, a mí me oye;(J) y el que a vosotros desecha, a mí me desecha; y el que me desecha a mí, desecha al que me envió.

Regreso de los setenta

17 Volvieron los setenta con gozo, diciendo: Señor, aun los demonios se nos sujetan en tu nombre. 18 Y les dijo: Yo veía a Satanás caer del cielo como un rayo. 19 He aquí os doy potestad de hollar serpientes y escorpiones,(K) y sobre toda fuerza del enemigo, y nada os dañará. 20 Pero no os regocijéis de que los espíritus se os sujetan, sino regocijaos de que vuestros nombres están escritos en los cielos.

Jesús se regocija

(Mt. 11.25-27; 13.16-17)

21 En aquella misma hora Jesús se regocijó en el Espíritu, y dijo: Yo te alabo, oh Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque escondiste estas cosas de los sabios y entendidos, y las has revelado a los niños. Sí, Padre, porque así te agradó. 22 Todas las cosas me fueron entregadas por mi Padre;(L) y nadie conoce quién es el Hijo sino el Padre; ni quién es el Padre, sino el Hijo,(M) y aquel a quien el Hijo lo quiera revelar.

23 Y volviéndose a los discípulos, les dijo aparte: Bienaventurados los ojos que ven lo que vosotros veis; 24 porque os digo que muchos profetas y reyes desearon ver lo que vosotros veis, y no lo vieron; y oír lo que oís, y no lo oyeron.

El buen samaritano

25 Y he aquí un intérprete de la ley se levantó y dijo, para probarle:(N) Maestro, ¿haciendo qué cosa heredaré la vida eterna? 26 Él le dijo: ¿Qué está escrito en la ley? ¿Cómo lees? 27 Aquel, respondiendo, dijo: Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, y con toda tu alma, y con todas tus fuerzas, y con toda tu mente;(O) y a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.(P) 28 Y le dijo: Bien has respondido; haz esto, y vivirás.(Q)

29 Pero él, queriendo justificarse a sí mismo, dijo a Jesús: ¿Y quién es mi prójimo? 30 Respondiendo Jesús, dijo: Un hombre descendía de Jerusalén a Jericó, y cayó en manos de ladrones, los cuales le despojaron; e hiriéndole, se fueron, dejándole medio muerto. 31 Aconteció que descendió un sacerdote por aquel camino, y viéndole, pasó de largo. 32 Asimismo un levita, llegando cerca de aquel lugar, y viéndole, pasó de largo. 33 Pero un samaritano, que iba de camino, vino cerca de él, y viéndole, fue movido a misericordia; 34 y acercándose, vendó sus heridas, echándoles aceite y vino; y poniéndole en su cabalgadura, lo llevó al mesón, y cuidó de él. 35 Otro día al partir, sacó dos denarios, y los dio al mesonero, y le dijo: Cuídamele; y todo lo que gastes de más, yo te lo pagaré cuando regrese. 36 ¿Quién, pues, de estos tres te parece que fue el prójimo del que cayó en manos de los ladrones? 37 Él dijo: El que usó de misericordia con él. Entonces Jesús le dijo: Ve, y haz tú lo mismo.

Jesús visita a Marta y a María

38 Aconteció que yendo de camino, entró en una aldea; y una mujer llamada Marta le recibió en su casa. 39 Esta tenía una hermana que se llamaba María,(R) la cual, sentándose a los pies de Jesús, oía su palabra. 40 Pero Marta se preocupaba con muchos quehaceres, y acercándose, dijo: Señor, ¿no te da cuidado que mi hermana me deje servir sola? Dile, pues, que me ayude. 41 Respondiendo Jesús, le dijo: Marta, Marta, afanada y turbada estás con muchas cosas. 42 Pero solo una cosa es necesaria; y María ha escogido la buena parte, la cual no le será quitada.

Jesús y la oración

(Mt. 6.9-15; 7.7-11)

11 Aconteció que estaba Jesús orando en un lugar, y cuando terminó, uno de sus discípulos le dijo: Señor, enséñanos a orar, como también Juan enseñó a sus discípulos. 2 Y les dijo: Cuando oréis, decid: Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos, santificado sea tu nombre. Venga tu reino. Hágase tu voluntad, como en el cielo, así también en la tierra. 3 El pan nuestro de cada día, dánoslo hoy. 4 Y perdónanos nuestros pecados, porque también nosotros perdonamos a todos los que nos deben. Y no nos metas en tentación, mas líbranos del mal.

5 Les dijo también: ¿Quién de vosotros que tenga un amigo, va a él a medianoche y le dice: Amigo, préstame tres panes, 6 porque un amigo mío ha venido a mí de viaje, y no tengo qué ponerle delante; 7 y aquel, respondiendo desde adentro, le dice: No me molestes; la puerta ya está cerrada, y mis niños están conmigo en cama; no puedo levantarme, y dártelos? 8 Os digo, que aunque no se levante a dárselos por ser su amigo, sin embargo por su importunidad se levantará y le dará todo lo que necesite. 9 Y yo os digo: Pedid, y se os dará; buscad, y hallaréis; llamad, y se os abrirá. 10 Porque todo aquel que pide, recibe; y el que busca, halla; y al que llama, se le abrirá. 11 ¿Qué padre de vosotros, si su hijo le pide pan, le dará una piedra? ¿o si pescado, en lugar de pescado, le dará una serpiente? 12 ¿O si le pide un huevo, le dará un escorpión? 13 Pues si vosotros, siendo malos, sabéis dar buenas dádivas a vuestros hijos, ¿cuánto más vuestro Padre celestial dará el Espíritu Santo a los que se lo pidan?

The Seventy-two Sent Out

10 Now after this (A)the Lord appointed [a]seventy-two (B)others, and sent them (C)in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. 2 And He was saying to them, “(D)The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. 3 Go; (E)behold, I am sending you out like lambs in the midst of wolves. 4 (F)Carry no money belt, no [b]bag, no sandals, and greet no one along the way. 5 And whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house.’ 6 And if a [c]man of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you. 7 Stay in [d]that house, eating and drinking [e]what they provide; for (G)the laborer is deserving of his wages. Do not move from house to house. 8 Whatever city you enter and they receive you, (H)eat what is served to you; 9 and heal those in it who are sick, and say to them, ‘(I)The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10 But whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘(J)Even the dust of your city which clings to our feet we wipe off in protest against you; yet [f]be sure of this, that (K)the kingdom of God has come near.’ 12 I say to you, (L)it will be more tolerable on that day for (M)Sodom than for that city.

13 “(N)Woe to you, (O)Chorazin! Woe to you, (P)Bethsaida! For if the [g]miracles that occurred in you had occurred in (Q)Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in [h](R)sackcloth and ashes. 14 But it will be more tolerable for (S)Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you. 15 And you, (T)Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You will be brought down to Hades!

16 “(U)The one who listens to you listens to Me, and (V)the one who rejects you rejects Me; but the one who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”

The Joyful Results

17 Now the [i]seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even (W)the demons are subject to us [j]in Your name!” 18 And He said to them, “I watched (X)Satan fall from heaven like lightning. 19 Behold, I have given you authority to (Y)walk on snakes and scorpions, and authority over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. 20 Nevertheless, do not [k]rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that (Z)your names are recorded in heaven.”

21 (AA)At that very [l]time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, “I [m]praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for doing so was well pleasing in Your sight. 22 (AB)All things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and (AC)no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son determines to reveal Him.”

23 (AD)Turning to the disciples, He said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see the things you see; 24 for I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see the things that you see, and did not see them, and to hear the things that you hear, and did not hear them.”

25 (AE)And behold, a [n](AF)lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 And He said to him, “What is written in the Law? [o]How does it read to you?” 27 And he answered, “(AG)You shall love the Lord your God [p]with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And He said to him, “You have answered correctly; (AH)do this and you will live.” 29 But wanting (AI)to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

The Good Samaritan

30 Jesus replied and said, “A man was (AJ)going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he encountered robbers, and they stripped him and [q]beat him, and went away leaving him half dead. 31 And by coincidence a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a (AK)Samaritan who was on a journey came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion, 34 and came to him and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 On the next day he took out two [r]denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return, I will repay you.’ 36 Which of these three do you think [s]proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?” 37 And he said, “The one who showed compassion to him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do [t]the same.”

Martha and Mary

38 Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named (AL)Martha welcomed Him into her home. 39 And she had a sister called (AM)Mary, who was also (AN)seated at the Lord’s feet, and was listening to His word. 40 But (AO)Martha was distracted with [u]all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do the serving [v]by myself? Then tell her to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered and said to her, “(AP)Martha, Martha, you are (AQ)worried and distracted by many things; 42 (AR)but only one thing is necessary; for (AS)Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

Instruction about Prayer

11 It happened that while [w]Jesus was praying in a certain place, when He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John also taught his disciples.” 2 And He said to them, “(AT)When you pray, say:

‘[x]Father, [y]hallowed be Your name.
[z]Your kingdom come.
3 Give us (AU)each day our [aa]daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins,
For we ourselves also forgive everyone who (AV)is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation.’”

5 And He said to them, “[ab]Suppose one of you has a friend, and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves, 6 because a friend of mine has come to me from a journey and I have nothing to serve him’; 7 and from inside he answers and says, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already been shut and my children [ac]and I are in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything.’ 8 I tell you, even if he will not get up and give him anything just because he is his friend, yet (AW)because of his [ad]shamelessness he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
