The Vine and the Branches

15 “I am^(A) the true vine,^(B) and my Father is the gardener. ² He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit,^(C) while every branch that does bear fruit^(D) he prunes^[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. ³ You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.^(E)

³⁷ Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest^(A) is plentiful but the workers are few.^{(B) 38} Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

⁴ As long as it is day,^(A) we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.

²² But the fruit^(A) of the Spirit is love,^(B) joy, peace,^(C) forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ gentleness and self-control.^(D) Against such things there is no law.^(E)

¹⁵ Be very careful, then, how you live^(A)—not as unwise but as wise, ¹⁶ making the most of every opportunity,^(B) because the days are evil.^(C)
