John 15:14-25

¹⁴ You are ^(A)my friends ^(B)if you do what I command you. ^15 (C)No longer do I call you servants,^[a] for the servant ^(D)does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for ^(E)all that I have heard from my Father ^(F)I have made known to you. ¹⁶ You did not choose me, but ^(G)I chose you and appointed you that you should go and ^(H)bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that ^(I)whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. ¹⁷ These things I command you, ^(J)so that you will love one another.

The Hatred of the World

^18 (K)“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. ^19 (L)If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because ^(M)you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. ²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you: ^(N)‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, ^(O)they will also persecute you. ^(P)If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. ²¹ But ^(Q)all these things they will do to you ^(R)on account of my name, ^(S)because they do not know him who sent me. ²² If I had not come and spoken to them, ^(T)they would not have been guilty of sin,^[b] but now they have no excuse for their sin. ^23 (U)Whoever hates me hates my Father also. ^24 (V)If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, ^(W)they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have ^(X)seen and hated both me and my Father. ²⁵ But ^(Y)the word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled: ^(Z)‘They hated me without a cause.’
