³⁴ “A new command^(A) I give you: Love one another.^(B) As I have loved you, so you must love one another.^{(C) 35} By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”^(D)

¹⁰ He has delivered us from such a deadly peril,^(A) and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope^(B) that he will continue to deliver us, ¹¹ as you help us by your prayers.^(C) Then many will give thanks^(D) on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.

² Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.^(A)

¹⁸ And pray in the Spirit^(A) on all occasions^(B) with all kinds of prayers and requests.^(C) With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying^(D) for all the Lord’s people.

Qualifications for Overseers and Deacons

3 Here is a trustworthy saying:^(A) Whoever aspires to be an overseer^(B) desires a noble task. ² Now the overseer is to be above reproach,^(C) faithful to his wife,^(D) temperate,^(E) self-controlled, respectable, hospitable,^(F) able to teach,^(G)

Thanksgiving and Prayer

⁴ I always thank my God^(A) as I remember you in my prayers,^{(B) 5} because I hear about your love for all his holy people^(C) and your faith in the Lord Jesus.^{(D) 6} I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ.

¹⁴ Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders^(A) of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil^(B) in the name of the Lord. ¹⁵ And the prayer offered in faith^(C) will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.

¹⁶ If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life.^(A) I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death.^(B) I am not saying that you should pray about that.^(C)
