You Are of Your Father the Devil
39 They answered him, (A)“Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, (B)“If you were Abraham's children, you would be doing the works Abraham did, 40 but now (C)you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth (D)that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did. 41 You are doing the works your father did.” They said to him, (E)“We were not born of sexual immorality. We have (F)one Father—even God.” 42 Jesus said to them, (G)“If God were your Father, you would love me, for (H)I came from God and (I)I am here. (J)I came not of my own accord, but (K)he sent me. 43 (L)Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot (M)bear to hear my word. 44 (N)You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. (O)He was a murderer from the beginning, and (P)does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. (Q)When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. 46 Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? 47 (R)Whoever is of God hears the words of God. (S)The reason why you do not hear them is that (T)you are not of God.”

39 Ἀπεκρίθησαν καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ· Ὁ πατὴρ ἡμῶν Ἀβραάμ ἐστιν. λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Εἰ τέκνα τοῦ Ἀβραάμ [a]ἐστε, τὰ ἔργα τοῦ Ἀβραὰμ [b]ἐποιεῖτε· 40 νῦν δὲ ζητεῖτέ με ἀποκτεῖναι, ἄνθρωπον ὃς τὴν ἀλήθειαν ὑμῖν λελάληκα ἣν ἤκουσα παρὰ τοῦ θεοῦ· τοῦτο Ἀβραὰμ οὐκ ἐποίησεν. 41 ὑμεῖς ποιεῖτε τὰ ἔργα τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν. [c]εἶπαν αὐτῷ· Ἡμεῖς ἐκ πορνείας [d]οὐ γεγεννήμεθα· ἕνα πατέρα ἔχομεν τὸν θεόν. 42 [e]εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Εἰ ὁ θεὸς πατὴρ ὑμῶν ἦν ἠγαπᾶτε ἂν ἐμέ, ἐγὼ γὰρ ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐξῆλθον καὶ ἥκω· οὐδὲ γὰρ ἀπ’ ἐμαυτοῦ ἐλήλυθα, ἀλλ’ ἐκεῖνός με ἀπέστειλεν. 43 διὰ τί τὴν λαλιὰν τὴν ἐμὴν οὐ γινώσκετε; ὅτι οὐ δύνασθε ἀκούειν τὸν λόγον τὸν ἐμόν. 44 ὑμεῖς ἐκ τοῦ πατρὸς τοῦ διαβόλου ἐστὲ καὶ τὰς ἐπιθυμίας τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν θέλετε ποιεῖν. ἐκεῖνος ἀνθρωποκτόνος ἦν ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς, καὶ ἐν τῇ ἀληθείᾳ [f]οὐκ ἔστηκεν, ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἀλήθεια ἐν αὐτῷ. ὅταν λαλῇ τὸ ψεῦδος, ἐκ τῶν ἰδίων λαλεῖ, ὅτι ψεύστης ἐστὶν καὶ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ. 45 ἐγὼ δὲ ὅτι τὴν ἀλήθειαν λέγω, οὐ πιστεύετέ μοι. 46 τίς ἐξ ὑμῶν ἐλέγχει με περὶ ἁμαρτίας; [g]εἰ ἀλήθειαν λέγω, διὰ τί ὑμεῖς οὐ πιστεύετέ μοι; 47 ὁ ὢν ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ τὰ ῥήματα τοῦ θεοῦ ἀκούει· διὰ τοῦτο ὑμεῖς οὐκ ἀκούετε ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ οὐκ ἐστέ.
48 [h]Ἀπεκρίθησαν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ· Οὐ καλῶς λέγομεν ἡμεῖς ὅτι Σαμαρίτης εἶ σὺ καὶ δαιμόνιον ἔχεις;

John 8:39-48
New International Version
39 “Abraham is our father,” they answered.
“If you were Abraham’s children,”(A) said Jesus, “then you would[a] do what Abraham did. 40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me,(B) a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God.(C) Abraham did not do such things. 41 You are doing the works of your own father.”(D)
“We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.”(E)
42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me,(F) for I have come here from God.(G) I have not come on my own;(H) God sent me.(I) 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil,(J) and you want to carry out your father’s desires.(K) He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.(L) 45 Yet because I tell the truth,(M) you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says.(N) The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”
