63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.

65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?

68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.

Now the Jew's feast of tabernacles was at hand.

His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.

For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.

For neither did his brethren believe in him.

Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.

The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.

Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast: for my time is not yet full come.

When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.

10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.

11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?

12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.

13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.

63 The Spirit gives life;(A) the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit[a] and life. 64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known(B) from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him.(C) 65 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”(D)

66 From this time many of his disciples(E) turned back and no longer followed him.

67 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.(F)

68 Simon Peter answered him,(G) “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.(H) 69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”(I)

70 Then Jesus replied, “Have I not chosen you,(J) the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!”(K) 71 (He meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot,(L) who, though one of the Twelve, was later to betray him.)(M)

Jesus Goes to the Festival of Tabernacles

After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want[b] to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders(N) there were looking for a way to kill him.(O) But when the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles(P) was near, Jesus’ brothers(Q) said to him, “Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do. No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.” For even his own brothers did not believe in him.(R)

Therefore Jesus told them, “My time(S) is not yet here; for you any time will do. The world cannot hate you, but it hates me(T) because I testify that its works are evil.(U) You go to the festival. I am not[c] going up to this festival, because my time(V) has not yet fully come.” After he had said this, he stayed in Galilee.

10 However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret. 11 Now at the festival the Jewish leaders were watching for Jesus(W) and asking, “Where is he?”

12 Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said, “He is a good man.”

Others replied, “No, he deceives the people.”(X) 13 But no one would say anything publicly about him for fear of the leaders.(Y)
