³ Jesus responded and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless someone ^(A)is born ^[a]again he cannot see ^(B)the kingdom of God.”

^6 (A)For the mind ^[a]set on the flesh is ^(B)death, but the mind ^[b]set on the Spirit is life and peace, ⁷ because the mind ^[c]set on the flesh is ^(C)hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, ⁸ and those who are ^(D)in the flesh cannot please God.

⁹ However, you are not ^(E)in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God ^(F)dwells in you. But ^(G)if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. ^10 (H)If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is ^[d]alive because of righteousness. ¹¹ But if the Spirit of Him who ^(I)raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, ^(J)He who raised ^(K)Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies ^[e]through His Spirit who dwells in you.

⁹ but just as it is written:

^10 [a](B)For to us God revealed them ^(C)through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the ^(D)depths of God. ¹¹ For who among people knows the thoughts of a person except the ^(E)spirit of the person that is in him? So also the thoughts of God no one knows, except the Spirit of God. ¹² Now we ^(F)have not received the spirit of ^(G)the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God. ¹³ We also speak these things, ^(H)not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, ^[b]combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.

¹⁴ But ^[c]a ^(I)natural person ^(J)does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are ^(K)foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Stand Firm

^13 (A)But we should always give thanks to God for you, ^(B)brothers and sisters beloved by the Lord, because ^(C)God has chosen you ^[a]from the beginning ^(D)for salvation ^[b](E)through sanctification ^[c]by the Spirit and faith in the truth. ¹⁴ It was for this He ^(F)called you through ^(G)our gospel, ^[d]that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

^5 (A)He saved us, ^(B)not on the basis of deeds which we did in righteousness, but ^(C)in accordance with His mercy, by the ^(D)washing of regeneration and ^(E)renewing by the Holy Spirit, ^6 (F)whom He ^(G)richly poured out upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior,
