¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? ^11 (A)Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and ^(B)you do not receive Our witness. ¹² If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? ^13 (C)No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man ^[a]who is in heaven. ^14 (D)And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so ^(E)must the Son of Man be lifted up, ¹⁵ that whoever ^(F)believes in Him should ^[b]not perish but ^(G)have eternal life. ^16 (H)For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten ^(I)Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. ^17 (J)For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

^18 (K)“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

²⁰ For ^(A)the Father loves the Son, and ^(B)shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. ²¹ For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, ^(C)even so the Son gives life to whom He will. ²² For the Father judges no one, but ^(D)has committed all judgment to the Son, ²³ that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. ^(E)He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

Life and Judgment Are Through the Son

²⁴ “Most assuredly, I say to you, ^(F)he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, ^(G)but has passed from death into life. ²⁵ Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when ^(H)the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. ²⁶ For ^(I)as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have ^(J)life in Himself, ²⁷ and ^(K)has given Him authority to execute judgment also, ^(L)because He is the Son of Man. ²⁸ Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will ^(M)hear His voice

⁴² And they said, ^(A)“Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”

⁴³ Jesus therefore answered and said to them, ^[a]“Do not murmur among yourselves. ^44 (B)No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me ^(C)draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, ^(D)‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ ^(E)Therefore everyone who ^[b]has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me. ^46 (F)Not that anyone has seen the Father, ^(G)except He who is from God; He has seen the Father. ⁴⁷ Most assuredly, I say to you, ^(H)he who believes ^[c]in Me has everlasting life. ^48 (I)I am the bread of life. ^49 (J)Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. ^50 (K)This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die.

²⁵ Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. ^(A)The works that I do in My Father’s name, they ^(B)bear witness of Me. ²⁶ But ^(C)you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, ^[a]as I said to you. ^27 (D)My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. ²⁸ And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. ^29 (E)My Father, ^(F)who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. ^30 (G)I and My Father are one.”

Renewed Efforts to Stone Jesus

³¹ Then ^(H)the Jews took up stones again to stone Him. ³² Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?”
