When they landed, they saw a fire(A) of burning coals there with fish on it,(B) and some bread.

10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.(C) 14 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples(D) after he was raised from the dead.

Jesus Reinstates Peter

15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”(E)

Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”(F)

16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”(G)

17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?”(H) He said, “Lord, you know all things;(I) you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.(J) 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death(K) by which Peter would glorify God.(L) Then he said to him, “Follow me!”(M)

And although there were so many, the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, (A)“Come and (B)have breakfast.” Now (C)none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came and (D)took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. 14 (E)This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.

Jesus and Peter

15 When they had (F)finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, (G)“Simon, (H)son of John, (I)do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed (J)my lambs.” 16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, (K)“Tend (L)my sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him (M)the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, (N)you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed (O)my sheep. 18 (P)Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, (Q)you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.” 19 (This he said to show (R)by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, (S)“Follow me.”

So when they got out on the land, they *saw a charcoal (A)fire already [a]made and (B)fish placed on it, and bread. 10 Jesus *said to them, “Bring some of the (C)fish which you have now caught.” 11 So Simon Peter went up and hauled the net to land, full of large fish, 153; and although there were so many, the net was not torn.

Jesus Provides

12 Jesus *said to them, “Come and have (D)breakfast.” None of the disciples ventured to inquire of Him, “Who are You?” knowing that it was the Lord. 13 Jesus *came and *took (E)the bread and *gave it to them, and the (F)fish likewise. 14 This was now the (G)third time that Jesus revealed Himself to the disciples, after He was raised from the dead.

The Love Question

15 Now when they had (H)finished breakfast, Jesus *said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you [b](I)love Me more than these?” He *said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I [c]love You.” He *said to him, “Tend (J)My lambs.” 16 He *said to him again, a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you [d]love Me?” He *said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I [e]love You.” He *said to him, (K)Shepherd My sheep.” 17 He *said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you [f]love Me?” Peter was [g]hurt because He said to him (L)the third time, “Do you [h]love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, (M)You know all things; You know that I [i]love You.” Jesus *said to him, (N)Tend My sheep.

Our Times Are in His Hand

18 Truly, truly I tell you, when you were younger, you used to put on your belt and walk wherever you wanted; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and someone else will put your belt on you, and bring you where you do not want to go.” 19 Now He said this, (O)indicating by (P)what kind of death he would glorify God. And when He had said this, He *said to him, (Q)Follow Me!”

When they landed, they saw a fire there, with fish on it, and some bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you’ve just caught.” 11 Simon Peter got up and pulled the net to shore. It was full of large fish, one hundred fifty-three of them. Yet the net hadn’t torn, even with so many fish. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples could bring themselves to ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came, took the bread, and gave it to them. He did the same with the fish. 14 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.

Jesus and Peter

15 When they finished eating, Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”

Simon replied, “Yes, Lord, you know I love you.”

Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 Jesus asked a second time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Simon replied, “Yes, Lord, you know I love you.”

Jesus said to him, “Take care of my sheep.” 17 He asked a third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was sad that Jesus asked him a third time, “Do you love me?” He replied, “Lord, you know everything; you know I love you.”

Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. 18 I assure you that when you were younger you tied your own belt and walked around wherever you wanted. When you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and another will tie your belt and lead you where you don’t want to go.” 19 He said this to show the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. After saying this, Jesus said to Peter, “Follow me.”

When the disciples got out of the boat, they saw some bread and a charcoal fire with fish on it. 10 Jesus told his disciples, “Bring some of the fish you just caught.” 11 Simon Peter got back into the boat and dragged the net to shore. In it were 153 large fish, but still the net did not rip.

12 Jesus said, “Come and eat!” But none of the disciples dared ask who he was. They knew he was the Lord. 13 Jesus took the bread in his hands and gave some of it to his disciples. He did the same with the fish. 14 This was the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from death.

Jesus and Peter

15 When Jesus and his disciples had finished eating, he asked, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than the others do?”[a]

Simon Peter answered, “Yes, Lord, you know I do!”

“Then feed my lambs,” Jesus said.

16 Jesus asked a second time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter answered, “Yes, Lord, you know I love you!”

“Then take care of my sheep,” Jesus told him.

17 Jesus asked a third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus had asked him three times if he loved him. So he told Jesus, “Lord, you know everything. You know I love you.”

Jesus replied, “Feed my sheep. 18 I tell you for certain that when you were a young man, you dressed yourself and went wherever you wanted to go. But when you are old, you will hold out your hands. Then others will wrap your belt around you and lead you where you don't want to go.”

19 Jesus said this to tell how Peter would die and bring honor to God. Then he said to Peter, “Follow me!”
