¹⁸Then the Jewish leaders^[a] asked him, “What sign can you show us as authority for doing these things?”

¹⁹Jesus answered them, “Destroy this sanctuary, and in three days I will rebuild it.”

²⁰The Jewish leaders^[b] said, “This sanctuary has been under construction for 46 years, and you’re going to rebuild it in three days?”

¹⁸The Jews^(A) then responded to him, “What sign^(B) can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”^(C)

¹⁹Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”^(D)

²⁰They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?”
