John 19:28-36
English Standard Version
The Death of Jesus
28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now (A)finished, said ((B)to fulfill the Scripture), (C)“I thirst.” 29 A jar full of sour wine stood there, (D)so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, (E)“It is finished,” and he bowed his head and (F)gave up his spirit.
Jesus' Side Is Pierced
31 Since it was (G)the day of Preparation, and (H)so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was (I)a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away. 32 So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other (J)who had been crucified with him. 33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out (K)blood and water. 35 (L)He who saw it has borne witness—(M)his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth—(N)that you also may believe. 36 (O)For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled: (P)“Not one of his bones (Q)will be broken.”

22 (A)And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull). 23 And they offered him wine mixed with (B)myrrh, but he did not take it. 24 And they crucified him and (C)divided his garments among them, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take. 25 And (D)it was the third hour[a] when they crucified him. 26 And the inscription of the charge against him read, (E)“The King of the Jews.” 27 And with him they crucified two (F)robbers, (G)one on his right and one on his left.[b] 29 And (H)those who passed by derided him, (I)wagging their heads and saying, (J)“Aha! (K)You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, 30 save yourself, and come down from the cross!” 31 So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying, (L)“He saved others; (M)he cannot save himself. 32 Let (N)the Christ, (O)the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may (P)see and believe.” (Q)Those who were crucified with him also reviled him.
The Death of Jesus
33 And when the sixth hour[c] had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.[d] 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus (R)cried with a loud voice, (S)“Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 35 And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.” 36 And someone ran and filled a sponge with (T)sour wine, put it on a reed (U)and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.” 37 And Jesus (V)uttered a loud cry and (W)breathed his last.

English Standard Version
33 (A)And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull), 34 (B)they offered him wine to drink, mixed with (C)gall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. 35 And when they had crucified him, (D)they divided his garments among them by casting lots. 36 Then they sat down and (E)kept watch over him there. 37 And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus, (F)the King of the Jews.” 38 Then two (G)robbers were crucified with him, (H)one on the right and one on the left. 39 And (I)those who passed by (J)derided him, (K)wagging their heads 40 and saying, (L)“You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! (M)If you are (N)the Son of God, come down from the cross.” 41 So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, 42 (O)“He saved others; (P)he cannot save himself. (Q)He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 (R)He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 (S)And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.
