Peter’s Second and Third Denials(B)

25 Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing there warming himself.(C) So they asked him, “You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?”

He denied it, saying, “I am not.”(D)

26 One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off,(E) challenged him, “Didn’t I see you with him in the garden?”(F) 27 Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow.(G)

Jesus Before Pilate(H)

28 Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor.(I) By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace,(J) because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover.(K) 29 So Pilate came out to them and asked, “What charges are you bringing against this man?”

30 “If he were not a criminal,” they replied, “we would not have handed him over to you.”

31 Pilate said, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.”

“But we have no right to execute anyone,” they objected. 32 This took place to fulfill what Jesus had said about the kind of death he was going to die.(L)

25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.

26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?

27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.

28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.

29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?

30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.

31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:

32 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.
