John 16:5-15

The Holy Spirit Promised

⁵“But now ^(A)I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘^(B)Where are You going?’ ⁶But because I have said these things to you, ^(C)grief has filled your heart. ⁷But I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I am leaving; for if I do not leave, the ^[a]^(D)Helper will not come to you; but if I go, ^(E)I will send Him to you. ⁸And He, when He comes, will convict the world regarding sin, and righteousness, and judgment: ⁹regarding sin, ^(F)because they do not believe in Me; ¹⁰and regarding ^(G)righteousness, because ^(H)I am going to the Father and you no longer are going to see Me; ¹¹^(I)and regarding judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

¹²“I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them at the present time. ¹³But when He, ^(J)the Spirit of truth, comes, He will ^(K)guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. ¹⁴He will ^(L)glorify Me, for He will take from Mine and will disclose it to you. ¹⁵^(M)All things that the Father has are Mine; this is why I said that He takes from Mine and will disclose it to you.

⁵But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

⁶But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

⁷Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

⁸And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

⁹Of sin, because they believe not on me;

¹⁰Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

¹¹Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

¹²I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

¹³Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

¹⁴He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

¹⁵All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
