³³ I have said these things to you, that ^(A)in me you may have peace. ^(B)In the world you will have ^(C)tribulation. But ^(D)take heart; ^(E)I have overcome the world.”

³ Not only that, but we ^(A)rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering ^(B)produces endurance, ⁴ and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, ⁵ and ^(C)hope does not put us to shame, because God's love ^(D)has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Future Glory

¹⁸ For I consider that the sufferings of this present time ^(A)are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

Testing of Your Faith

^2 (A)Count it all joy, my brothers,^[a] when you meet trials ^(B)of various kinds, ³ for you know that ^(C)the testing of your faith ^(D)produces steadfastness. ⁴ And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be ^(E)perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Suffering as a Christian

¹² Beloved, do not be surprised at ^(A)the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. ¹³ But rejoice ^(B)insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad ^(C)when his glory is revealed. ^14 (D)If you are insulted ^(E)for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory^[a] and of God rests upon you. ¹⁵ But ^(F)let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or ^(G)as a meddler. ¹⁶ Yet ^(H)if anyone suffers as a ^(I)Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God ^(J)in that name. ¹⁷ For it is time for judgment ^(K)to begin at the household of God; and ^(L)if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who ^(M)do not obey the gospel of God? ¹⁸ And

¹⁹ Therefore let those who suffer according to God's will ^(O)entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.

¹⁰ And ^(A)after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, ^(B)who has called you to his ^(C)eternal glory in Christ, will himself ^(D)restore, ^(E)confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

^4 (A)He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and ^(B)death shall be no more, ^(C)neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
