The Triumphal Entry(A)

12 (B)The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out:

“Hosanna!
(C)‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’
The King of Israel!”

14 (D)Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written:

15 “Fear(E) not, daughter of Zion;
Behold, your King is coming,
Sitting on a donkey’s colt.”

16 (F)His disciples did not understand these things at first; (G)but when Jesus was glorified, (H)then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.

17 Therefore the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his tomb and raised him from the dead, bore witness. 18 (I)For this reason the people also met Him, because they heard that He had done this sign. 19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, (J)“You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!”

The Fruitful Grain of Wheat

20 Now there (K)were certain Greeks among those (L)who came up to worship at the feast. 21 Then they came to Philip, (M)who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”

22 Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.

23 But Jesus answered them, saying, (N)“The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified. 24 Most assuredly, I say to you, (O)unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much [a]grain. 25 (P)He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 If anyone serves Me, let him (Q)follow Me; and (R)where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.

Jesus Predicts His Death on the Cross

27 (S)“Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? (T)But for this purpose I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify Your name.”

(U)Then a voice came from heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”

29 Therefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to Him.”

30 Jesus answered and said, (V)“This voice did not come because of Me, but for your sake. 31 Now is the judgment of this world; now (W)the ruler of this world will be cast out. 32 And I, (X)if I am [b]lifted up from the earth, will draw (Y)all peoples to Myself.” 33 (Z)This He said, signifying by what death He would die.

Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King(A)

12 The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. 13 They took palm branches(B) and went out to meet him, shouting,

“Hosanna![a]

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”[b](C)

“Blessed is the king of Israel!”(D)

14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:

15 “Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion;
    see, your king is coming,
    seated on a donkey’s colt.”[c](E)

16 At first his disciples did not understand all this.(F) Only after Jesus was glorified(G) did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him.

17 Now the crowd that was with him(H) when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word. 18 Many people, because they had heard that he had performed this sign,(I) went out to meet him. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!”(J)

Jesus Predicts His Death

20 Now there were some Greeks(K) among those who went up to worship at the festival. 21 They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida(L) in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,” they said, “we would like to see Jesus.” 22 Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus.

23 Jesus replied, “The hour(M) has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.(N) 24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies,(O) it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it(P) for eternal life.(Q) 26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be.(R) My Father will honor the one who serves me.

27 “Now my soul is troubled,(S) and what shall I say? ‘Father,(T) save me from this hour’?(U) No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name!”

Then a voice came from heaven,(V) “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.” 29 The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.

30 Jesus said, “This voice was for your benefit,(W) not mine. 31 Now is the time for judgment on this world;(X) now the prince of this world(Y) will be driven out. 32 And I, when I am lifted up[d] from the earth,(Z) will draw all people to myself.”(AA) 33 He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.(AB)
