⁷“But ask the animals, and they will teach you,^(A)
    or the birds in the sky,^(B) and they will tell you;^(C)
⁸or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
    or let the fish in the sea inform you.
⁹Which of all these does not know^(D)
    that the hand of the Lord has done this?^(E)
¹⁰In his hand is the life^(F) of every creature
    and the breath of all mankind.^(G)
¹¹Does not the ear test words
    as the tongue tastes food?^(H)

Mourning for the One They Pierced

¹⁰“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit^[a]^(A) of grace and supplication.^(B) They will look on^[b] me, the one they have pierced,^(C) and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child,^(D) and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.^(E)
